Hanoi5
[hv=d=s&v=n&n=s9xhkj9xxdxcjt9xx&s=sakqj87haxdkjxckx]133|200|Scoring: XIMP[/hv] We're currently playing a Cavendish tournament and this hand caused a lot of trouble. 1. The bidding: Should South open 2♣? How should it go? After:2♣ 2♥2♠ 3♣??? After:2♣ 2♦ X* 2♠??? * Double shows a possitive hand 2. The Play: At most tables where 4♠ was the final contract West led a diamond to the ace and: - A spade came back, showing East with 5 trumps to the 10.- A small club came back.- A diamond came back (West holds the King) What's the best line to get 10 tricks? gnasher
After a trump return: ♦K, ♦ ruff, two top hearts, heart ruff, exit with a club. If the diamond is overruffed, I'll have to guess clubs. If the second heart is ruffed. I'll probably go down. After a diamond return, I'd ruff it in dummy and then try to draw trumps. When I find that trumps are 5-0, I cash ♦K and revert to the previous line. Edited March 26, 2009 by gnasher

Bid 3NT. You have a good ♦ stopper, like 3NT and otherwise you still have the semiforcing you promised. After:2♣ 2♦ X* 2♠??? That is evil :) I would probably pass, hoping partner can Dbl for TO. He won't with a singleton ♦, but was worth a try. As for the play. I play the same as Gnasher. On the first auction this seems likely to work, you will end up with ♠KQJ8 behind ♠T543.
