pass and lead A

Bill

You won't be on lead unless the opponents are nuts and sit this out.

Double and then spades.

why? is 3nt a raise or something? sounds like to play. and X is takeout? Doesnt sound like we would mesh very well as partners...

Bill

No 3N is not a heart raise but its 200 to 1 that RHO is jokering and will pull to 4.

lol...Phil he said he is passing not doubling...

I don't blame you for being so shocked that anyone would pass that you assumed he doubled though :)

Yeah he did LOL. Never occurred to me someone would sell out to 3N.

So partner doubled and bid an own suit. HE was on lead against 3 NT, so he did not have AKxxxxxx and out, he has a really really strong hand. I have 14 HCPS more then I promised so far, so we are on slam territory.

I bid 5 Club, showing a control.

Or do you really need this pid to show a weak hand with long clubs? I doubt it, but in this case, bid 5 Spade and pass partners rebid.

When 5 askes for trump quality or something weird, bid a simple 6 Spade and pray.

Ummm, If I was your opp, I would be happy to claim -450, vs. your 680/1430. So there is nothing "nuts" about sitting it out, undoubled.

(however, if you double, you wont be on lead, because now they will not sit for it.)

:)

edit: I didn't read any further than your original post b4 posting this, I see Justin pointed this out already now. :)

I think p will bid 5 and I will pass that, unless I have the understanding that it only asks for a heart control. I don't think I have that understanding, unfortunately.

Well, I happen to have it, so I'd use it: 5 it is then.

The double of 3NT usually shows 16+ hcp and could easily be more. With 14 across to boot, a slam try is normal.

I would bid 4 directly before I double, I'm not going to expose the psyche to LHO.

Thought about that, but what if pard happens to have a few high cards? He would never move on if you don't double first.

Even n00bishly trying to concoct a hand where 3NT is values and somewhat of a gamble I can't do it. That means RHO is a joker, and that means MHO isn't broke, right?

It's actually pretty helpful that they've psyched. Now you can double and bid 4 when RHO runs to show a powerful hand with spades (as opposed to bidding 4 directly which could be less power and more shape). If RHO had just bid 4 like a normal person then we'd have no way to distinguish these two hand types.
