Same as Ken. By doing so I make it difficult for RHO to rise with a heart honor for a diamond through. In the end, I hope to take 2 spades, 2 diamonds, 2 clubs and 3 hearts.

4 would be a more comfortable spot here.

Suppose that I cross to a club and play a heart to the 10. If it loses on my left, to either the king or the jack, LHO will probably play back a spade, because anything else will seem unattractive. Then what? I seem to be reduced to reduced to playing for hearts 3-3 with the king onside, or QJx in one hand (although if that layout exists they might have played back a heart to get at the entry).

What about just playing a heart to the queen at trick two? That works against:

- Hearts 3-3 with K onside.

- Hearts 4=2 with K onside, because LHO can't attack my diamond entry.

- K offside but QJx in one hand.

- Some odds and ends like J9 doubleton onside.
