Missed vulnerable game

Recommended Posts

Unfavorable vulnerability at IMPs

South dealt herself: KT4, AQT9852, 6, 96

What's the best start?

South actually opened 3H, hoping to describe her hand immediately and

stifle non-vulnerable competition.

North, holding: J963, J76, AQ8, T87 passed, and we missed a game.

At the other table, the bidding was 1H - 2H - 4H.

A teammate said "With 7 hearts and a singleton, it's obvious to bid a

vulnerable game."

What do you think?

This is pure resulting. 3 is ideal for the hand and you're not raising to four with this assortment.

Ask your teammates what they do if the K of heart is guarded offside, with the AQ of spades sitting wrong, what they think about going two off.

I agree completely with you and Tyler. What are the odds of game making here?

3 and pass for me RvW.

At the other table it was quite optimistic to raise the 2 response to 4.

Seriously, if my teammates criticize the missed making game here, I tell them to do some math and figure out how often this poor game makes. If they cannot or won't do that, I may be looking for new teammates since I know that I and most likely PD don't want to be bothered by this sort of resulting.

Just my opinion.. neilkaz ..

#1 Depends on agreement, but the hand looks ok for a red vs.

green preempt.

You have a fair chance to make 7 tricks, not sure, but the chance

is there.

#2 North has a hand, which will usually provide 2 tricks, i.e. 3H making,

hence he should pass.

#3 The 4H on the other table was ok, but agressive, unless they play

constructive raises.

I would not open 1H, but it is ok.

So all in all, your auction was fine, but that does not mean that you

have the right to get a good result.

With kind regards

Marlowe
