(Pass) 1 (Pass) ?

4-card majors but 1 can be three if you have a bad suit in a 4-3-3-3 hand.[/hv]

Use your methods.

I am more interested in your judgement rather than exactly what you bid.

I dont think our hand is that good, partner may easily have a weak nt with H wastage and we wont make no game and its possible that 4C goes down. This is the judgement part of my post.

For the method part of my post, I hate inverted raises so i have the choice between 2D (limit or +) or 1D. I prefer 1D followed by forcing to game if partner rebid a C/M (walsh showing 5m+4m i assume) or invitationnal with D+C over a weak nt. It tend to show 6D+4C but it still a good way to describe my hand.

The downside of 1D are ...

are slam auction will be more difficult after 1D

will play in 3D instead of 3C when partner got a minimum weak nt.

Certainly playing 5 card majors this would be an invite without much thought.

With the problem as given using 4 card majors, I admit to lack of experience. But if someone says the reduced odds partner has just three clubs or as many as four hearts is enough to make this a game force, I think I'd be sceptical but maybe I could be talked into it.

No matter what your methods, I feel strongly you must raise clubs now. The auction is not unlikely to become very competitive very quickly, notwithstanding the opponents both passing already. Begging LHO to overcall at the 1 level is asking for trouble. We need to show our fit asap.

Whoops I forgot to mention that it was in a weak NT context - i thought everyone played that ;-)

I love the double negative.

Changes matters for me. In weak NT context, I force to game.

What are inverted minors ?

What is an inverted raise ?

Or am I in the wrong Forum ?

Inverted minors = inverted raise.

It means that instead of

1m 2m = 6-10 hcp

1m 3m = 11-12 hcp (invitational to game)

you play it the other way around:

1m 2m = 11+ hcp, any hand that's invitational or better

1m 3m = 6-10 hcp, preemptive

Note that the inverted minors scheme allows you to bid hands that are game forcing or better, something that the classic scheme doesn't cater for and which may force you to bid 3 card suits to create a force.
