peachy
I think the key to the decision is in the "team event against weak opposition". Assuming we are the stronger team, no need to go out on a limb. More often than not, I would bid 1H, but not against a weak team.
mcphee
I do not see the reason for bidding. The downside for a H is a possible dangerous 4-3 fit when your side has adequate defense against S. It is not outside that you could grab a very suitable penalty from a S partial. If we pass it is not unreasonable to find partner protecting at these colors especially and I doubt we will miss a game as partner is 100% protecting is LHO passes and he holds a 9 or 10 count. P_Marlowe
Pass. If you want to go creative, bid 1NT, every thing else is ... With kind regardsMarlowe
CSGibson
Pass. I can stand 1N if a partner did it, but it's not my choice. And 1♥ is sick. I'm a fan of 4 card overcalls and 3rd seat openers, but only if my hand is undervalued, and I want a lead in that suit. Bidding a 4 card major, and not even a particularly good one, in what I expect to be a constructive auction will just make high level bidding decisions harder on this hand, and on subsequent ones when partner isn't sure of my bidding. skjaeran
I'm passing over 1♦. I'd rather overcall 1NT than 1♥, really dislike 1♥.
