RE: BIDDING TABLES ON THE WEB CLIENT

The windows version has options where we can control the opposition's bids: pass always, overcalls, prempsts, doubles, etc...

It also has the option that the table host controls the opps bidding.

Could we have that in the web version?

Sometimes we want to rebid the hands in constructive, competititve and even defensive modes and the need control over the bots.

Thanks.

I have poor vision and have a lot of trouble reading the cards in the web version. If you could just make it so that the Page Zoom function in Opera or Chrome would work with your display that would solve the problem.

I am sure Fred will be able to explain your options better than I. But here are my thoughts. First, the "web client" is actually in Flash player. I doubt Fred can add a zoom to that, but I seem to remember some flash programs having a zoom function built in, so maybe I a am wrong about what Fred can do.

Your options seem to be.

  1.

  2. Enlarge the card/bidding section by clicking on the bottom of the playing window and reducting the size of the chat area, and clicking on the right hand side of the playing window and reducing the size of the friends, kibitzer, host box area.

  3. You might try right clicking on any of the hands and choosing display deal as hand diagram. Many poor eyesight people find that easier to read.

  4. Wndows comes with a magnifier, that admittedly, is a pain to use. But you can open that and have the magnifier track the mouse. That should make any part of teh game area you are having trouble seeing larger.

  5. If you bought a large digitial TV, well, hook it up to the computer, they will be way big enough.

  6. Maybe talk with uday to see if he can help reduce the size of the Ads on the left hand side of the screen, which would increase the screen real estate to display the cards in making them marginally bigger.

I hope one or more of those suggestions will help. Seems t

I've been trying to figure out why (without poor eyesight) the web-based BBO tables seem so much smaller. I noted the ads were removed from each side of the BBO real estate but that did not seem to help the table height. I think I figured correctly when I compared the web-based table size to the 5.0.3 table size and got a ratio of about 6 to 10. Ben, Fred? Do I need a new calculator? Or does my calculator need a new me?

If you use your mouse, you can almost totally elimioate the results/kibitzers/yellow frame on the right hand side of the screen. You can greatly minimize the chat area below the "table". Doing this steches the table area.

When I make the 5.0.3 version "wide" I get 6.12 x 8.48 inches on my screen. when I do the enlargement methods mentioned above, I get 6.63 x 11 inches. On the downside, having a minimum result table thingee on the right hand side is annoying.

I have attached a screenshot of the screen when it was modified as described above. Note how small the "result thing" is on the side. The way it is shown in the picture below is exactly how it looked on the screen.

One of the primary factors that determines the ratio of the web client's table to that of the 5.0.3 Windows client is your screen resolution.

If the horizontal aspect of your screen resolution is between 800 and 1024 pixels (800x600 and 1024x768 are 2 common settings), the Windows client will fill up your entire monitor.

The web client will always fill up your entire monitor, regardless of your screen resolution. So if your resolution is such that the Windows client fills up your whole screen (it sounds like it does in your case) and if you do some of the things that Ben and I suggest, the bridge table will be approximately the same size in both clients.

However, if you have a higher resolution monitor, the table in the web client will be bigger - possibly much bigger. For example, my screen resolution is set to 1920x1200 and the bridge table for me in the web client is between 3 and 4 times as big as it is in the Windows client.

But probably more important than screen resolution is the physical size of your monitor. It sounds to me that either your eyes are really bad (no offense intended) or you have a relatively small monitor. If your monitor is small and if you have $500 or so to spare, I strongly suggest you get a really big monitor. I promise you will be happy you made this investment, not just for the time you spend on BBO, but for everything you do on your computer.

If you have a big monitor then it won't matter that much what your screen resolution is set to as far as the BBO web client is concerned, but the higher the resolution the crisper the graphics will look.

There is a definite trend toward monitors becoming bigger, of higher resolution, and also less expensive. The prices have dropped like crazy in the past few years.

There is also a strong trend (more than 50% of new systems), around Berwick at least, for non-computer people to buy laptops primarily for BBO.

Apparently these allow you to play BBO in the living room and, more importantly, you can take the laptop when you have to baby sit the grandchildren. More important than their eyesight apparently ;)

I am right now watching a vugraph connected on the web version as anonymous. ( with zzzz_xxxx.

If I chose to see the hosts or the stars, I can see the profile when I click on a nickname but when I chose the kibitzers, it doesn't work and I am enable to see the profile of the spectators.

As another one of those that suffer from poor eyesight and modest typing skills I would love a way to match the size of the chat line where I type my chat to the size of the chat box above. That would make it easier to catch my own typos, before putting them into the lobby chat. Perhaps there is a way already but I have not yet stumbled across it. I see more than one way to effect the chat displayed in the lobby, but not the actual chat enter line. I frequently need to use the magnifier to what I have typed before sending it to the chat screen above.

On the whole, I am impressed with the features of the web client, and look forward to seeing it continue to evolve and improve.

There seems to be a glitch when viewing hands in the Hands & Results window.

I click on Recent Tournaments, then on My Hands next to a tournament. I then click on a hand and switch to the Other Tables tab, but it's blank. I switch back to My Table and then again to Other Tables, and now it's filled in.

Then I select another hand, click on Other Tables, but it still shows the first table. Going back and forth to My Tables and Other Tables gets it to the current board.

Basically, you have to go to the Other Tables tab twice to get it to show the hand you've selected.

I have experienced this problem too.

Generally when using the Flash client I'm on IE... I think it might be an older version though.

Thanks for the bug report. It will be fixed in the next version.

Making the size of the chat-entry font resizable would open up a can of worms so I am not going to get involved in this right away (sorry).

But in the next version the font size will be bigger. If it is still not big enough for you please let me know.

I bet someone mentioned this, but there is a problem on the web client when I attempt to join or kibitz a table which requires permission.

Once permission is requested, there is no way to cancel. If permission is then denied, I am kicked out of BBO completely. Since I often join tables where friends are playing or kibitzing, I have no real warning about this situation (unlike if I was clicking on a table in the main club directly).

As far as I know, nobody has mentioned this before.

So far I have been unable to replicate this condition. Can you please provide some more details (like a step-by-step description of what happens)? Assuming that I can see it happen myself, it should be easy to include a fix in the next version.

Cancel that request for more information. I figured it out.

It will be fixed in the next version. Thanks for reporting this problem.
