Bidding problem

Recommended Posts

Hello

Playing SAYC, had a bidding problem on this hand in a tourney.

[hv=d=s&v=e&n=sa93ht92d5ckjt732&w=skqt84hd942cq9864&e=sj76hakq654dkq83c&s=s52hj873dajt76ca5]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

I was East and this is how the bidding went. We ended up in 4. Partner was a sub.

West North East South

 -     -     -     Pass

 Pass  1    1    1NT

 Pass  2    2    Pass

 Pass  3    3    Pass

 4    Pass  Pass  Pass

Should I have bid 3 instead of 3 or shd partner have showed instead of 4.

Pls advise

Thanks and Regards to all

Kamal

Hi,

I guess a better bid than 2D is X.

I am not saying 2D is wrong, it avoids misunderstandings,

and somehow it showes your strength as well, but if you

want to find the spade fit, X is better than 2D.

And if you dont want to play 2Cx with your club void, than

at least you had a reason not to make the t/o.

3H was also fine.

I dont like 4D, a typical "fear" bid, you raise the level, because

you are void, Pass is certainly the bid which one should choose.

An good alternative tp Pass is 3S, looking at the club length, and

since partner wont have a extreme 2-suiter, he would have bid

3D with 6-5, you can bet on some spades with him, but I would

not fault partner, if he would go quitely.

With kind regards

Marlowe

I don't want to be defending 2C so I agree with 2D. Now W should act and bid 2S. Looking at his clubs he can expect me to hold either 2650 or 3640. He knows KQ of S are good cards anyhow so he can safely show some life. After raise to 3S west is in a hard spot. I can't see reasons for raise. I think the auction would end there with me... although vul imp... Maybe I'd find some reason raise anyhow :)

I agree with the advice to double 2, but I think that West could (and should) bid 2.

After the 1NT bid by South this is competitive, not strong, but it makes live a lot easier for East.

Agree totally woth Dick's comment.
