Mirjam_3
uday said a nice thing in one his posts... he really has humor... he said: expert td's or suggested td's were experts at what they do... for me a good reason to laugh since i know from myself i am no expert.. not in play and not as td... but i try to be world class in both of course!!! what i try to do is being fair and even than i make mistakes.. so why sdnot i and maybe more td's admit that we are almost but not entirey perfect?: i wd like to use this thread for td's to tell the things that went wrong...and maybe.. only maybe we can laugh a bit about ourselves? Mirjam_3
humor is a very difficult thing in a foreign language but as td you need it a lot.. i think...so plse help me to develop it :D sometimes it takes a long time before a sub is seated...it happens that i try to sub a player and the player starts to play again before he was subbed...experience has learned me that mostly the sub will refuse the invitation if some time has passed in the meantime but i feel it as a big blooper if the player get subbed a few minutes later in the middel of a slam...well. maybe one of you can tell me what wd be a good phrase to tell in that situation?
Fouad
A player asked me to adjust his score since he was playing 4h X .... and opp refused his good claim ... i reviewed the board very fast and found that 4h after his sequence of play cannot lose .... so i adjusted the score to 4h X made by NS ...............a moment and found the same player screeeming that he ( EW )played the 4h X and not his opp :D ... sure i made the mistake ..but had to re adjust it again ..... when we are in a hurry many mistakes apear  Fo at bbo

willow23
There was an incident where some TD I know all my life. :D <blush> had a request from a table to increase the time as he had a sitout pair at a 7-Min / round tourney.....So at the 1 min blink ..the TD confidently changes round time to 6 min..thinking that all players will get an extra 6 min...when that did not work ..he tries 8 min ...only to see 1 min blinking again...Well , you can just imagine the true confessions session...lol...Sorry .."Newbie TD, Sorry for any inconvenience caused"...lol..I <I mean my friend  >had to chuck it up to inexperience ..as that was my first time running a Tournament by my self...as a co-director ..never had to change round time.. Talk about learding the hard way...
Mirjam_3
if i run private tournament i sent the members an invitastion stating that there will be a tourney in about half an hour. i sent such a message by chat and i think it only reaches the ones who are at BBO and as far as i know this works. :) yesterday i sent the members of my private club the following message by mail (i used mail to reach the people who might came in during the day): 'tournament in 12 hours' when even remarks came in like 'i cannot be there, i have to work', when the tournament was running i realised that the people got that message when they entered BBO :) and they counted from that point in eternity :D :)

Mirjam_3
Since i see more and more dutch players on BBO i thought it might be a good idea to try once to make a tournament for dutch players so i created Hemelvaartsdag 2004. I made a description in dutch and than i wondered whether or not i was going to put in my rules. I read them again and i thought: well, i put them in... maybe the alerting rule is too vague but we will see how it goes and anyway if i sub they know they have no right to be replaced if they get online later. So i put the rules there and i started to advertise for the tournament. After a few hours a dutch player said: 'Do we have to follow yr rules? It seems not easy to do that this time' I reread them and there i saw: USE ENGLISH ONLY
Mirjam_3
today i started Glamour with 2 sitouts... luckyly i had 2 subs and i cd sub the sitouts and than i wanted to say hello to the players and after that i had immediately 6 calls... this is the most painful moment a director can have in her tourney so i took a breath and went to the first call... player a asked to sub his p xyxxi looked and saw player xxx which had to bidin pairs i usually (if i have time) ask the p if he/she needs a sub but here the partner asked to sub so it would be ok... and sometimes names are spelled wrong... with 5 more calls to go i subbed player xxx i was 2 calls further when player a said: u subbed my p and xyxx still has not bid... Mirjam_3
Today my neighbour came in while i was running Glamour. Well, all seemed ok, so we had a nice cup of coffee. Rounds switched and i saw i only needed to adjust one table.A player asked: Are you adjusting?Honest me: No Ten minutes later the partner of this player asked for adjustment so i decided it was time i took a look... 6h down... i filled in everything... ok? Ok! Run!! The player: Tx so very much dear, well done, u only adjusted board 6 and not 4. Oops: they were playing board 6... in 3d 2 cards played... Player: They looked funny when you adjusted!! I believe that...
