el mister
What sort of hand is required to reverse into a suit at the two level when partner has not bid? For example, last night I bid the following sitting east (playing Acol): [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sq5hkq73dakj1063c5]133|100|Scoring: IMPW N E Sp p 1♦ 2♣p p 2♥ p3♥ p 4♥ pp p[/hv] Is my 2♥ bid forcing for one round, or given the passed hand (x2) can pard pass it? I took his bid as constructive - weak but with a decent ♥ suit. Also, is my rev bid acceptable? Or below the minimum strength required? Thanks. helene_t
The fact that partner is a passed hand doesn't change reverse sequences. The reason is that as soon as you have shown reverse strength, partner's original pass does not mean that he doesn't have values to force to game. It may be different if opener made a minimal rebid - then a passed partner "cannot" have values to force to game. I think you reverse bid is fine, in Acol 2♦ would be non-forcing and you don't want to make a non-forcing rebid with this good hand. Edit: sorry I misread the auction, thought partner bid 2♣. Marlowe is right, 2♥ is non-forcing. This is not related to the fact that partner failed to open.
P_Marlowe
Hi, 2H is fine, but it is nonforcing, it showes add. values, but partner can pass it. The important point is, that there was intervention, and that the 2H bid occurred in the pass out seat. With kind regardsMarlowe
