gnasher Posted March 3, 2009 Report Share Posted March 3, 2009 It looks like an overbid, but I bid 4♦. Double will usually get us to four of a major anyway, but not always to the right one. If you double and partner bids a major, are you going to pass? Partner will nearly always have four of them; give him a scattering of values as well and game looks quite good. Likewise, if you double and hear 4♣, it would be unkind to leave him there. It's not clear whether you should bid 4♦ or 4♥, but whichever you choose he's not going to play you for 5-5 in the majors. Double might gain if partner decided to pass it, with a 3334 shape and good diamonds. I don't think that very likely, though. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Your lack of values and doubleton diamond more than diminish the five card support. I have no real problem with 4♦ but feel it should be said that you have to remember hands like this the next time your partner comes in at a high level under pressure, and you are contemplating slam tries... My first instinct was to double but thinking about it more I think 4D will work out better. Like Josh says, provided that partner doesn't get too excited and go about his way of making a slam try as I wouldn't particularly enjoy going 1 off in 5M.
