LHO opens 1S showing 6 diamonds or 54 in the minors 9-15...partner passes and RHO bids 3D, your go.

You agreed that over 1S, X was take out of diamonds and 2D was Michaels.

So this is basically like a 1-3 preempt sequence. would we act there?, vulnerable I think I am passing.

There is a big difference, since partner didn't have a 1M overcall available.

I would double. My second choice is actually 4, not pass. Ugh!

It looks like an overbid, but I bid 4. Double will usually get us to four of a major anyway, but not always to the right one.

If you double and partner bids a major, are you going to pass? Partner will nearly always have four of them; give him a scattering of values as well and game looks quite good.

Likewise, if you double and hear 4, it would be unkind to leave him there. It's not clear whether you should bid 4 or 4, but whichever you choose he's not going to play you for 5-5 in the majors.

Double might gain if partner decided to pass it, with a 3334 shape and good diamonds. I don't think that very likely, though.

FWIW if you double and partner bids three of a major, I think it's quite clear to pass. Your lack of values and doubleton diamond more than diminish the five card support.

I have no real problem with 4 but feel it should be said that you have to remember hands like this the next time your partner comes in at a high level under pressure, and you are contemplating slam tries...

Hmm tough. I want to act so pass is out of the picture for me. Now to X or to bid 4D. My first instinct was to double but thinking about it more I think 4D will work out better. Like Josh says, provided that partner doesn't get too excited and go about his way of making a slam try as I wouldn't particularly enjoy going 1 off in 5M.
