Free
Hi all, yesterday I played the semi-finals of the Belgian Pairs, we qualified for the finals and so we are with the best 22 pairs in my country :( Here are a few hands which were very interesting imo: [hv=d=n&v=n&n=st94hak92daqt54c8&w=sk52h76d83ckq9632&e=saq73h5dk96cat754&s=sj86hqjt843dj72cj]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] The bidding went: 1♦ - 1♠ - 2♥ - 3♥*pass - 3♠ - 4♥ - passpass - 4♠ - pass - passDbl - pass - 5♥ - Dblall pass I was sitting in West, and I was wondering weither or not to show an invitational support hand. Eventually with 3♥ I showed good support and game invite. Partner with his 4 card ♠ decided to bid only 3♠ (since he had only a 4 card), but he was a maximum anyway. When opps bid 4♥, he bid 4♠ in the hope they would double and we'd make a top score. They did Double, but South countered with 5♥, which was already too late, and he went down 3, for an easy +500 for us. Afterwards, our opps were astonished by my partner's bidding: he bid 3 times ♠ with only a 4 card and a longer sidesuit! Lucky he did, because 4♠ is just made, and 5♣ has no chance. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=st94hak92daqt54c8&w=sk52h76d83ckq9632&e=saq73h5dk96cat754&s=sj86hqjt843dj72cj]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] The bidding went: pass? - 1♠ - pass - 2♦Dbl - pass - 2♥ - Dblpass - 2♠ - pass - 3♣pass - 5♣ - all pass 2♥ was clearly made, and best my partner bid 2♠ (we play 4 card Majors, so this only promissed a 5 card in some cases). I still don't understand why East didn't open the auction, but we ended up in 5♣+1. IF my partner would've opened 1♣ we would surely be in 6♣, because of a different bidding sequence:1♣* - 3♣*3♦* - 3♠*4♣* - 4♦*6♣... 3♠ shows exact 0-4-5-4 hand and GF4♦ shows 3/0 keycardsopener only relays However, I think his bid was best, open with weak hands 1M when 5-6 distribution, because we can 'never' find a 5-3 fit Major when he'd open 1m... [hv=d=n&v=n&n=st94hak92daqt54c8&w=sk52h76d83ckq9632&e=saq73h5dk96cat754&s=sj86hqjt843dj72cj]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] I played only 4♠ (west) following the bidding:1♠ - pass - 2♥ - pass3♦ - pass - 4♠ - passlong thinking pause and all pass With open cards it's obvious how to play, you'll lose only 1 trick in ♦. But when you see only 26 cards, you have to make a decision. After a few tricks I played ♦A and I saw ♦Q fall under it. Now I had to make a decision: small to the J or small to small and let the K drop. I choose wrong and made only +1 for a very bad score, since most people were in 6♠= and only 1 was in 4♠+2... Just 2 boards later I came up with the same problem (I had Axxx vs Jxxx) and that time I made the right decision: A and small to small :D . Hopefully next week I can say I played some nice hands as well, and that I'm Belgian champion :(
mishovnbg
Wonderful Frederick! I wish you luck at finals! By the way in first hand 5♣ is cold, only depend of A♦ good placed, which is almost 100% by bidding. 4♠ is down if 4-2 or worse ♠ break. flytoox
Free, well done. In the last hand, what is their lead? If it is a club, then you should cleared c and established h. After cashing d ace and seeing d king drops, playing jack is always right, he will be endplayed if he has d kq doubleton.
Free
Yeah, it was ♣A... Poor play leads to poor results in such tourney... :( If we don't make such mistakes we should end up pretty high next week. As usual I had my good moments and my bad ones :(

inquiry
[hv=d=n&v=n&n=st94hak92daqt54c8&w=sk52h76d83ckq9632&e=saq73h5dk96cat754&s=sj86hqjt843dj72cj]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] Lucky he did, because 4♠ is just made, and 5♣ has no chance. sure make in 5♣ given the ♦ACE is on side. However, if this is matchpoints, 4♠ would have scored very well for you. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=st94hak92daqt54c8&w=sk52h76d83ckq9632&e=saq73h5dk96cat754&s=sj86hqjt843dj72cj]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] 2♥ was clearly made, Let's see. ♥AKQ, ♣AKQ, ♠A, ♠ ruff, yes, 2♥ is a clear make... FOR NORTH SOUTH.... so 800 available in 2♥X. Of course 6♣ would be better still. Good luck in the finals. Ben
