Hi,

3H.

We play hearts, I will tell p this as fast as possible.

I have seen the suggested plan 2H - 4H, maybe

better.

With kind regards

Marlowe

I originally thought this was better also, however 3 shows a much better trump suit; true we have 8 of them, but 3 shows nearly a self sustaining trump suit IMO.

The 1st difficulty is to decide whether we want to show our hand or to let pard describe his.

If we do the latter, 2 seems perfect. But, since I don't think the info pard can show will be very helpful, I'll just try and tell pard what I have.

So 3 seems just about par. Then we pull pard's next bid to 4 and hope he can make an educated guess afterwards.

And no, I don't agree that 3 should show a near-solid suit. That's, in my opinion, too restrictive.

For me 3 would show good hearts and not this suit, so I am really surprised for the votes.

I can show this hand with 2 followed by 4 .

In my opninon, no, you can't. You have way too many controls to bid a mere 2. Your auction would be fine if you had an ace less, say

x

KT9xxxxx

Ax

Kx

or

x

KT9xxxxx

xx

AK

It is the wealth of top tricks that swings me into bidding 3. You lie about suit solidity (which might not even be a problem), but describe playing strength more accurately.

Bidding 3 shows willingness to play slam opposite a small singleton

2 is still GF, and you will jump on your next turn.

I don't like the 2/4 idea. 2 and then 4 for me shows something more like x, AQJxxxx, xx, Axx.

I will start with 2, bid 3 over whatever and then self-cue over 3N. If pard is holding a trump honor, he should cooperate.

Pretty much I agree with this. I take 2 then 4 as a weaker hand with a stronger suit.

Btw, I remember Fred once posted his partnership agreements for the differences between (after a 2/1 response) 1 then 4, 1 then 3, 1 then 2 then 3, 1 then 2 then 4, etc. I remember thinking it was an extremely good summary and that I agreed with all his definitions almost to a tee. I don't suppose you are out there reading this and could maybe give your thoughts, fearless leader? Or maybe some amazing searcher could find his post, I think it was a year or two ago.
