IMO it's an extremely lucky hand... The only possibility I see is if North can show the stiff ... But idk how.

Perhaps...

1 - 1;

2 - 2NT(1);

3(2) - 3(3);

3(4) - etc...

(1) Asking about support, min/max, etc

(2) Max with shortage (3NT being max without shortage)

(3) Asking

(4) Short clubs

I'm only responding to a possible way to get there. I also think that it's just unlucky that the fit is so good. I don't think North is worth a max with shortage call either. But there you go.

Dealer: North
Vul: ????
Scoring: MP
Txx
AKQJ8x
xxx
Q
AKQJx
T9
Axx
J9x

Playing 4cM, 12-14 NT (if it matters):

1H - 1S

2H - 3D

3S - 4H

P

Who's to blame for missing slam in either major, or is it just unlucky the hands fit that well?

Hard hand but I thought south could take a chance and bid 4d over 3s and now North can launch 4nt rkc for spades.

come on gnome, 2 with AKQJxx in hearts?, you really have to be araid of your playing skills to do that :).

It is hard to see who can make another move. North knows that partner made a slight slam try in hearts missing AKQJ or trumps, but he has no real 5 level safety, maybe if he had Q instead of Q he could try something else.

Hi,

the start

1H - 1S

2H

Is certainly the only possible start, assuming you play

a standard like system without a lot gadgets.

Bidding 2S instead of 2H is not an option, one has a

good 6 card suit, and one can show the 6 card suit, so

one should do it.

Only if one happens to play Flannery, and if you have

agreed, that a 1S reponse showed 5 cards, 2S is an

option.

The alternative being, that you play Kaplan Inversion,

where a 1NT response would show 5 spades (depending

on the version you play).

If the spade fit was found, responder still has no idea

about the 6th heart, but maybe via a Game Try auction,

which got already suggest, you have a chance to reach 6S.

So all in all, I would not worry to much about missing this

slam.

With kind regards

Marlowe

Maybe:

1-1

2-3

I don't think you should suggest playing in spades when you have a solid heart suit and no side entry.

With only one way to agree hearts and make a slam try, this doesn't show club control.

So far so good. The next bid is a bit pushy.

I'm not sure that I'd actually do this. Still, partner has made a slam try and so far as you know his values are in the right suits. Also, bypassing both spades and diamonds makes it clear to him that he's going to have to provide most of the side-suit winners.
