I really don't want east leading diamonds through me if I can help it. Granted, if east has the K, I might not have much choice.

 

I'll win on dummy, cash the K, then finesse the Q.

 

If it loses and I get a return, I'm fine. If it loses and I get a return, I wonder if playing the ace might give me an opportunity for a squeeze if I win and run the round suits.

If you get a spade back then you have two spade winners, so...well done? ;)

Wasn't I always going to have 2 spade winners?

I think what he is saying is there is no need to rise with the spade A. You will have 4 clubs 3 hearts and 2 spades for your 9 tricks simply by ducking.

 

(One diamond lead from RHO can't hurt you.)
