It might look a bit timid with virtually 8 tricks in my hand, but there's nothing saying 3♣ will end the auction, nor is 3N a lock even when partner bids it. If you forced me to bid anything besides 3♣, I'd bid 3NT (Gambling style, long minor with some side cards). 2♣ is impossibly timid IMO. mikestar Posted February 25, 2009 Report Share Posted February 25, 2009 3♣ is perfectly reasonable, but I like 3NT as well: you will make it if partner can stop hearts when led through or if they don't lead them. 2♦ has some merit as well--it might make partner declare NT with a positional stopper like Kx. Here are 4 options often discussed:1) rebid minor at two level with strong playing strength but "minimum" hcp2) make a "lite" reverse into 4 card suit3) reverse into 3 card suit4) have jump rebid in minor = long minor....very wide range......very often side stiff or void. I encourage you to search forums as "real" experts suggest many options. Experiment and see what you prefer. I play option four.
