Language Translation

A general problem that I have noticed is that when playing in a tournament that is open

to the general public worldwide is the inability of one person being able to understand

another person. Is there software available, or could software be developed, to translate one language to another based on the nationality flags used by each player?

During some tournaments, I can not understand what the opponents general bidding approach is or what their carding is. Also when alerts are necessary, the explanation given is likewise not understandable.

I ask the tournament directors for assistance but they also do not understand the language used.

I also notice that I am prohibited from participating in tournaments where only one language is used and I do not speak or write that language.

I ask for your assistance please.

I agree... This might be a useful tool to put in BBO Flash... Maybe Babelfish or something? You set a default language and it translates everything to that language? The only thing is that there should be some way to untranslate, maybe something like:

Blah Blah Blah (Translated, Click Here to see as originally written)

Are there Cockney rhyming slang versions of bridge jargon?

Well I don't think there are any "official" ones, but then again, I don't think a lot of cockney is official. In Robert King's The New Kings' Tales, he has a story called Porridge, where he uses quite a bit of cockney in referring to bridge. The ones I can remember off the top of my head are:

Strawberry Jam = Slam

Tarts = Hearts

I can't remember anymore right now. I'll have to pull out my copy of the book.

Hi Shinty

In most tournaments, the director announces

"English only, no chat during bidding/play"

If you are later damaged by oppo failure to alert/explain in English, then I believe that you should ask for adjustment.

In very difficult circumstances, I have used tournament chat if any player can translate....or entered the phrase in Google. You would be amazed how helpful people can be if you ask for help .... unless they are from Yorkshire. rofl

There is no need even Lobby chat to advertise. Posting emotional appeals, personal attacks by puppies could only removed by this method. People who want to be more social or discuss may join BBO chat rooms and BBF. Play or chat. Just pick one.

Typing only should be allowed to fill alert box with international abbreviations in an online tournament or teams or Vu.

(Sometimes without comment also preferable). Moreover there's a need for superstar commentators. I wld be delighted to pay for reading or hearing their analyses. Shortly : Quality but not quantity principle. It should be kind of pay and watch th bests. Professionalism would bring benefits to all.

Visualisation would reach it's main goal when chat disallowed on playing field. People will read & study then focus more to th game and follow ethics with set stone rules determined by really experienced and talented staff.

Also, there are many elected USA and other nations presidents & assigned governors & officers etc changed and new generation started to work end of a period. But still mostly same admins group on BBO.

A fresh blood circuit sys is a must. It's like anatomy and nature rules.
