Pass it out

Recommended Posts

Hi,

being green vs. red and in first position,

you hold

K 542A109764K86

You decide to pass, if you really want, you can of course

comment on this decision.

Assuming you pass, the auction develops as followes

Pass - (3H) - Pass - (Pass)

???

Do you bid 4D or do you pass it out.

Does your decision depend on the quality of the opponents?

With kind regards

Marlowe

I pass as well (I would probably have opened with a weak 2 originally... I hate to pass and this isn't, for me, a 1 opener). Horrible heart holding... we may be getting stolen from, but often times, rho is sitting there loaded in defence with short hearts, and we are getting pounded if we move.

The first action seems the most questionable... I would occasionally open this hand 2 at favorable. What does occasionally mean? Depends on how good I'm feeling or how bad I'm steaming at a given moment, I suppose.

As far as what to do over 3, I'm passing. As Jill said, this strikes me a 'good bridge' decision. Are we getting robbed? Maybe, but I can't come up with something redeemable that makes me want to bid.

I agree with the first pass. Not only does the hand fail to meet the Rule of 20, one of the kings has the severe handicap of also being a singleton.

I think pass is the only reasonable alternative at the second decision. Partner's failure to act means he either doesn't have short hearts or his hand is not very good. Partner also doesn't have a very strong hand like an 18-count. Given these, it's likely that they are down a little (or making) and that we would be down as well if we were to compete.

While pass runs some risk of missing a good game, this is far outweighed by the very significant risk of getting doubled and going for a big number if we were to do something else.
