frouu
[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sat94hq2dt2cakt84]133|100|Scoring: IMP(1♣) - X - (pass) - ???[/hv] I was kibbing this in a teaching table, I was confused what the teacher suggested. What's the right bid? Thanks,
mr1303
I like 2C here. If partner has 4 spades I'll play 4 spades otherwise I'll play 3NT. I don't expect 1C X to be a profitable place to play. Either they run to somewhere better or they can scramble enough tricks to be better than our game. andy_h
I'll pass. I expect this to get a decent score given that it's nil vul and we have the T8 of clubs. Of course, if they run to another suit I can still get to 3NT or 4S if needed. That's IF they run.
Fluffy
2♣ will get you to your best contract, but pass will often be more profitable. This is not an easy problem IMO. I think any other bid than pass or 2♣ is dumb.
jdonn
I bid 2♣ since I think passing will just lead to a more confusing auction when LHO runs. But who knows, maybe I'm giving up the chance to kill them in any contract, so pass is not a bad choice.
rogerclee
I think pass is the best call, for the reasons cited by andy_h. Good problem.
mtvesuvius
and I like pass for the reasons clee cited :P
Phil
I'll pass. Opposite a minimum TOx, game is no means a lock. We may not have a 4-4 spade fit, and our club suit doesn't look so hot with four behind us.
the hog
2C. The opps will not play in 1C doubled and the auction will become muddy. I search for the best result possible, not the best possible result.
Codo
Great problem, no easy solution. Maybe as a teacher you should make life easy and have a clear statement about right and wrong? Anyway, I would vote for pass and when there is a latter bidding, I am prepared to play 4 NT or 4 Spade at least.
