[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sqj43 hdaq863 ck943]133|100|Scoring: IMP [/hv] apols spades- VOID- hts- diamds- club

Partner opens V 1n/t-15-17 nothing funny such as, it may contain a x---EAST NOW BIDS 2 HTS

No need to click the bid-we had been playing against opps for some time and we both know, its natural---if i x its for penalties or a transfer???-if i bid 2 spades -i have at least 5,unknown point count-if i bid 3diamonds--??what does that convey to pard,i was really stuck and partnership had not agreed that x was a transfer in this situation although if no opp bidding 2hts by me would be a transer

any solutions as to what to bid regards pirate

X = either take-out, optional or penalties, depending on agreement. If you do not play lebensohl you should (IMHO) play it as take-out since too many hands otherwise become unbiddable. Some club players play X as transfer but almost no tournament players do so.

2 = weak with at least five spades. Opener will almost always pass.

2NT = natural invite, or the lebensohl convention.

3 = forcing, 5+ diamonds (unless you have specifically agreed to play Rubensohl)

3 = Stayman. If you play lebensohl you will have agreed whether you have a heart stopper or not when you bid this.

So with this hand, you either bid 3 or 3. I think 3 is better since if you bid 3, you won't know what to do when opener bids 3NT. X is a bad idea (IMHO) even if agreed as take-out since opener will pass if he has four hearts and you don't want that.

Why LOL? We know he means t/out but there is no need to be snide about it.

Double with this hand and its void is not my choice, but it is not unreasonable.

I would bid 3D.

LOL b/c he's right and I know better.

this is what happens when you forget how to play. :/

3, upon further review.

Hi,

A could suggestion is to play X as t/o, I dont limit

the strength to inv, but ...

If you dont want to make a t/o given the void, than you

can bid 3D, which is natural and gameforcing or 3H

which would be Stayman, denying a stopper in hearts,

search for Lebensohl.

Without any agreements, your best bet is 3D, it wont

get passed often, and it wont be interpreted as transfer.

With kind regards

Marlowe
