fred
A poor bid IMO - noted with thanks :) Fred GitelmanBridge Base Inc.www.bridgebase.com
barmar
What did its explanation say? Maybe as a passed hand it's an unusual NT.
sireenb
Explanation said something like 'Balancing 1NT 11 HCP blah blah blah' I checked it but I did not think of adding it to the post. Actually GIBs do deviate from their explanations but I thought the gap was too wide in this case and got annoyed despite the fact that it made the contract (thanks to MY good hand and D stoppers!) uday
We've passed this on to Ari for fixing in the next rlse. GIB, with that hand, usually bids 1H or 2H but occasionally bids 1N. We'll take care of the 1N....
sireenb
Thanks Fred, Uday and Ari
sflicht
Another GiB bidding complaint: I opened 1H, andholding Axx, 98x, xx, Jxxxx,GiB bid a forcing 1NT! Some wires must have been crossed...
TylerE
What's wrong with 1NT? If the rebid is 2♣, you're gin, and over anything else it's an easy correct to the cheapest number of hearts.
jdonn
Another GiB bidding complaint: I opened 1H, andholding Axx, 98x, xx, Jxxxx,GiB bid a forcing 1NT! Some wires must have been crossed... If that's the worst thing your GIB ever does to you then please don't play against me for money! barmar
That's a standard use of forcing NT -- it's the way to show a subminimum 3-card raise. And pairs that use constructive raises use that sequence to show 6-8 HCP raised as well.
