This does not promise a stopper in balancing seat - the reason being that if p has a stopper, it probably doesn't matter that he is dummy in a notrump contract since he is behind the long spades. Pass cannot be right with such a good hand and only three little spades, double leads to a 4-2 fit in hears, and 2m to a 4-2 fit (or worse) as well. How much does 1NT show? They have more experience and more success then me. But I still would bid 1 NT with this hand. Showing 11-14 HCPS and a balanced hand with or without a stopper.
