North opens 4 on a void? What are you playing the Misry thing or something?

(I think he meant partner opens, and lho will bid 2 only if we give him room, in other words 1 p 1 2 or 1 p 4 p or 2 p 2 2 are the likely starts.)

Hi,

I will give it a try

1D (1) - (2S (2)) - Pass - (Pass(3))

4H (4) - (Pass) - Pass (5)

(1) SAYC like, i.e. could be a 3 carder

(2) WJS, forced

(3) forced, given they have a 9 card fit, a 3S call is not out of the world,

but given responders pass, 3S is always bid with hands, which have

support

(4) What else?

Assuming you play 2NT as Good-Bad here, you could try this,

But I would say, even if agreed, bidding 2NT is asking for it,

and 4H tells partner what you have.

(5) Ok, partner will be 6-5 for the bidding, but noboday tells me, we

are not of two spade tricks, and my king of clubs may or may not

be worth less, I would go for Pass

With kind regards

Marlowe

I hate 4 if it is exclusion. If it is simply descriptive, and 5 a cue, that's great, so long as partner reads 5 as properly inferring a need for the heart Queen.

As he seems to not get it in Roger's auction, I don't get 6. You ask for more and then go anyway when this is declined? Talk about high risk for adjustment.

That said, I think the auction works. I just ton't think 5 is right. With a fifth heart and the Queen to boot, 6 by Responder seems right. 4 was a BIG bid.

Personally, I'd like to start with a more mundane 3 and then develop the auction from there. Responder likely bids 4, expressing his dislike, which allows the same continuation as after an immediate 4, but with Responder knowing that his hand is all the more powerful contextually.

The risk is the obvious 4 raise, though. An immediate 4, therefore, may be the more practical approach.

A couple of posts recommend cue-bidding the CK at the 5-level. What kind of agreements do people have about cuebidding a second-round control at a level past game? Is it ok here because opener is clearly only worried about clubs? Is it the positional aspect of the stopper? (For example, if it were opener's hearts would you consider cuebidding the CK?) Does the cuebid tend to promise some extra values or is it "forced"?

Without going into all the rules, this one is clear. When Opener advertises a huge playing-strength hand that was too wild to open 2, that features a void in spades, a diamond opening, and a heart fit, with a fair expectation of 10-11 red cards, and forces the five-level opposite a possible near Yarb, show the club King.

1 (2) P (P)

4 (P)

I'm not sure it's automatic to cuebid the K on this auction. Partner obviously has a very strong hand with 5-6 in the reds. But it's not obvious to me that he's got a spade void. I guess I'd bid 5 at the table with Q fifth of trumps, a singleton and the K.

Actual auction was -

1 (Precision) - 2 - p (<6 HCP) - p

X (takeout) - p - 3 - p

3 (Nominally asking for a stopper) - p - 4 (Natural, denying a stop)

6 (Hey, I've got play if p has as little as xxxx xxxx xx Kxx, and partner knows I have hearts here, so 4 should show a non-bust hand)
