A few ideas...

Recommended Posts

It may be quite complex to implement, but it would speed things up a lot if people started the next round when ready even in a clocked tournament.

I'd be very keen on an individual tourney where you move around the table during a round, playing once (or maybe twice) with each person. This could be in a standard or a Swiss movement.

I really like the set hand types in the partnership bidding area, a few more would be welcome - personally I'd quite like a Precision 2 opener.

I'd also like to show my support for removal of the 'autoplay singleton' feature, an enforced delay of about 5 seconds after a skip bid and allowing people to sign up as subs before a tourney starts.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks for your suggestions Micky.

A couple of comments:

- There is a fairly simple and flexible mechanism built into the

Partnerership Bidding area for defining your own hand types.

Once you have created definitions you can store them in a

file so you don't have to reenter them every time. Suggest you

refer to the online Help and do some experimenting, but let

me know if you cannot figure this out.

- We get a lot of people mentioning the autoplay singleton and

skip bid issues. Probably I will change autoplay singletons at

some point (the coding is a pain or I would have done this already),

but I don't think the automatic enforcement of skip bids is

a good idea.

The reason is that the vast majority of our members are not

what I would call "serious tournament players". Most of those

that are play on our site mostly for fun. For these people the

forced delay would be annoying and would slow down the game.

I bet I would receive at least 10 times as many e-mails to take

them away than I have received in which this feature is requested.

Perhaps allowing table/tourney hosts to choose is the way

to go in this area.

Not sure if this is better posted here or in a new thread, but here it is:

The bidding practise system is good, and the custom hands thing works well, but only to a certain extent. The following things would make it even better:

The ability to enter a certain distribution, or minimum distribution. Eg. 5-5-2-1, or be able to say 10 cards in 2 suits.

The ability to count Losing Tricks and Playing Tricks, as well as High Card Points.

Erm, that's it really. If I could define those things I could practise Acol Strong 2-Bids, which would be very handy! However, I understand that this would probably involve a big overhaul of code (maybe not so much for having at least 1 6 card suit, or something like that, but definitely for valuing hands in other ways) and thus a large chuck of time. So just stick it down in the list, and I'll be happy :)

Thanks, Dom

Keep in mind that there is a tradeoff between adding extra

functionality and complicating the interface. Features that

are rarely used by only a small % of our members are best

left out of the software in my view.

Most of our members are not very good with computers and

some think that the interface is already too cluttered.

Same principle applies to your suggestion in another thread

about adding new options for logging chat.

Please don't take away autoplay of singletons. One of the most important features we have.

If you are going to make changes make autoplay as default - will be helpful to all.

Perhaps use Deep Finesse logic to autoplay all of the last n tricks where the outcome cannot be affected by human choice.

Sorry Clause - I disagree - aotoplay singletons is a DEAD giveaway that the card IS a singleton  and sometimes I don't want opp to KNOW that

You can ALWAYS change your own profile to enable autoplay of singletons :)

I dont ask for changes - I ask for no changes.

Several people have many times passionated advocated your opinion and if they can handle to play singletons within a reasonable time - I dont care.

The point is the opposite - they cannot!

It is simply too silly sitting to wait declarer to be able to decide from dummy when the singleton is only option.

I have never lost a trick in the 4-5 years now I have used that feature. But often I have been upset of people who try to manage in a decent way without. They cannot - online play is rather demanding if you are not physically on top.
