bidding:

The lead is 5.

1. Is the bidding ok?

2. How do you plan the play in details?

1.The biding is not ok, you are playing 2c with 6 card fit and you have a nice 4H to make. if xx showed clubs and said nothing about the majors then south must continue with only 2 clubs, maybe 2d should show both majors now , but if not then 2h is te alternative.

About the play, its hard to give a plan to something like that, to many variable, in general my plan is to try and play trumps, you want the trumps out so you can enjoy you heart suit , and the rest of your high cards without being ruffed, you need to take 3 to 4 round of trumps out and then play hearts (you dont mind getting ruffed by the last high trump) i think the best is to take the K of heart and lead trump to the Q. hope they will help you play diamonds or spade.

Well, as you are in it.....

will take Heart in dummy and take finesse playing the Q, playing RHO for KTxxxx . or Kxxxxx and T singleton offside.

Idea being to take double finesse and play hearts whenever you on lead otherwise. You have to play him for K too it seems. He either has to open or , seems hearts 4-1.

If he ruffs the 2nd heart he has to give you entry to take finesse again, or play himself assuming he has both K and A .

Using pronoun 'he' as only a man would X like that ;)

Hi Caren!

My usual methods are XX shows very good interest of playing the contract (5/6 cards) and pass an 'invitation' (4 cards or so), nevertheless, those 4 cards are worth a XX imo. Even more if untalked situation.

Now lets play, in my experience, you can deduce a lot from west´s face and tempos after the redouble comes to him if you passed quick enough, players tend to feel panicked when holding just 5 card suits and think a bit before pass.

For the play... there is a BIG lack of entries in south hand, being first trick probably te only trick he is gonna make, so its time to finese 9 right now, play small to the 9 and later small to the Q. After 4 trumps you can give him a couple of ruffs, you will make 3, 2, 1, 1 and he will become endplayed for giving a or . Only danger is him having 4 if he keeps on playing them, of a very pretty defence when east ducks a with KXXXX when west switchs, just congratulate them if they find it.

1. We play with Ben convention developed by uncle Bill, when opps dbl our artifical suit (transfer/multi/relay/stayman...)

Pass: Stopper+. Rdbl from partner means, if you have 4 good cards in dbl suit (like in example) to pass.

Rdbl: denied stopper in dbl suit, like partner to bid natural suits and to play contracts.

Any other bid: didn't afraid of lead in dbl suit, nat

2. Win lead in hand, finesse with 9, for Q, ...

I don't know that you're going to plan the play in detail -- too much reacting to the defense. I agree with Fluffy et al about leading a club to the 9 at trick 2, but also agree that LHO's manner may tell you this was not the most solid double in the world -- now lead to the jack.

The bidding may not be perfect, but without special agreements it is fine. Yes, you have game in hearts, but 760 will outscore that. If the double was really ill-advised, 1160 is possible.

Note that some people play that the double of Stayman shows cards, not clubs; not a great idea over a strong notrump, but it's possible. Definitely ask the question.

Hi!

Thank you for your replies!

I won the lead with the A (...) and played at trick 2 a small to the 9 which lost to the single 10 with E. It was interesting for me if I was right to play it this way. An expert told me to lead Q but I doubted. A heart came back and I made the big mistake not to unblock the K in dummy (for a later trump coup, leaving an entry to my hand in and make the -finesse at the end ;) )

Here the tricks in particular:

3: , ruffed by W

4: , won by E

5: , ruffed by W

6: , won in dummy

7: to the Q, won with the A by W

8: small , won by S

9: Q, ruffed by W, overruffed in dummy

10: A fished the K

11: must play the highest outstanding and was stuck in dummy

--> down 1 *sniff*

PS: will still anyone play with me in future?? :(

Cannot see why people in this thread, besides me naturally :(, did not opt for playing Q of on first round to cater for stiff T ;) ????

Out of interest Caren where was J ??

Caren

PS: will still anyone play with me in future??

I would play with you of course :) However, there is still the question as to whether you would want to play with me, jajaja ....

Hi slothy,

naturally the J was with W :(

I'll give it a long thought whether to play with you or not :) I have kind of a "Trauma" because it seemed to be my destiny that whenever I asked sb to play with me he was about to go ;)

I guess you shouldn't have played a club at all. If you wait for opps (especially LHO) to open it you can easily have four club tricks as you can take tricks with your honours separately. I think i would have continued hearts. LHO's ruffs are tricks he is entitled to take. Every lead from him/her helps us. And she must lead something after ruffing.
