Fluffy
All vul you are at third position with: ♠Qxx♥x♦AJ10xxx♣AQ10 pass - (pass)-1♦-(4♥)double-(pass)-???
mcphee
I would try 4N, a D suit with 3C and see what partber manages next.
ArtK78
What is wrong with pass? Partner, who is a passed hand, doubled. I don't play this as a negative double - clearly it shows values, but he is a passed hand. My hand is 3-1-6-3. Maybe it can play well in diamonds, maybe not. But I have no reason to believe that we are making 11 tricks, and I would rather play for 4 in hearts. If LHO is bidding 4♥ based on long hearts and a very good hand, he will be playing from his hand. So I expect to make at least 2 club tricks, maybe 3. Partner may have a trump trick. I have the ♦A and no fear of a diamond lead. I would be surprised (not shocked) if they make, but in that event we were probably not going to do well in 5♦. RichMor
Pass at pairs, 5♦ at teams.
whereagles
What is wrong with pass? Maybe a double game swing? But you're right in that it could easily be the right bid. I prefer 4NT, though.

Fluffy
partner had AxxxxAxxxxxxx 4♠ makes4♥ down one5♦ down one (doubled by crazy east) I was worried because the winning call didn't even pass through my head.
Codo
yes 4 ♠ was the obvious call after this textbook-double..... :)
jdonn
I would bid 5♦. Though things didn't work out on this hand, I don't blame partner for doubling. If I had four spades or if I could pass it would be a big winner, and even if I bid 5♦ that would often be fine too. His double would normally show more but with two aces I honestly don't mind. mtvesuvius
5♦ (a long term winner imo). 4♠ crossed my mind, because 4-3 fits don't always play so badly, but partner may say the same thing when he passes with 3♠ ;).
