mike777
I wish I opened 2s if forced to pass I bid .....2h over one h.
Echognome
Would you have passed in third seat? I think you mean in 1st or 2nd seat. 1) I would have passed.2) I would not fit jump, as the FJ suit is poor (making it harder for partner to judge)3) I would have bid 4♥ over 3♦. Takes up a lot of room, but only way for partner to know that our hand is good.
orlam
Wouldn't 4♣ over 3NT now show a good hand for hearts?
jdonn
4♣, a cuebid for hearts.
JLOL
I would've opened 2S but don't fault a pass much. Definitely more of a style thing. Agree wtih 4C now.
P_Marlowe
#1 Yes, but a matter of partnership agreement#2 No, 1S is fine, sry, we have a 7 card suit#3 No, 3S, we have a 7 card suit After 3nt from partner, you can now suggest 4H.#4 4S, we have ... With kind regardsMarlowe
quiddity
Why 4C? Isn't the DQ a more useful card for partner?
JLOL
Why 4C? Isn't the DQ a more useful card for partner? 4D doesn't confirm that you had 3 hearts to begin with and is suggesting diamonds as a possible strain.
Codo
1. Yes I had passed2. NO3. Yes4. 4 ♣ of course.
quiddity
4D doesn't confirm that you had 3 hearts to begin with and is suggesting diamonds as a possible strain. I often get mixed up in situations like this - I would have assumed that pulling 3nt after giving a preference would tend to be a cuebid in support of the preferenced suit. What would you expect for a 4D bid - 2-3 in the reds catering for a possible 5-5 in opener's hand? And how would you bid a more balanced hand with a better holding in diamonds and nothing outside - say JT9xxx ATx KQ xx?
MarkDean
Thanks for the replies. On the actual hand, it does not really matter, as 5♥ is safe, and partner will put the brakes on even if you make two moves. At the table, I bid 4♦, which partner, probably correctly, took as a suggestion of strain. He bid a slow 4♥, which I passed. For the 4♣ bidders, what are you doing over 4♦? JLOL
For the 4♣ bidders, what are you doing over 4♦? Easy to say now I guess, but I would have signed off contently.

Yeah I don't think that's a tough decision. There is no other control to show and we are minimum for our slam try.
