Random partner at an individual

Recommended Posts

Non-Vul against Vul opponents you open the following hand with 1:

QJx

AKxxx

Axx

AT

Your partner, an intermidiate player according to himself, bids 4. Opponents are passing, do you:

(1)Pass

(2)Bid on

why do people even bother asking questions about random partners? you know nothing about them, they know nothing about you. they might be totally competent players who intentionally misbid here fearing that without agreements you might pass a forcing raise in hearts... or they might be total idiots who bid 4H with a very biddable slam.

my inclination with bbo randoms is always the second and i would bid on, though. more often than not you're sitting across from either a n00b or an idiot who has no idea what they're doing.

Probably less scary than if partner advertised himself as "Expert"... but the lines of communication a severely hurt.

If partner's profile says "SAYC", I would assume he has his 5-card heart support, Blackwood and shoot for the slam if he has the ace of spades. I assume you don't play money tournaments with unknown partners.

Lemme guess. He had 11 hcp, a 4-3-3-3, and no Q? :o

Impossible problem but I Pass and go plus. Same strategy as if you walked into a 5 cent rubber game in a strange city.

Pard could be an idiot or be playing YOU to be an idiot. Form of scoring? If Pard looks at your profile they see???

If they see expert, maybe they feel lucky with a 10 count and at most scoring forms I make Pass a 2-1 favorite to survive.

I pass. In most Indys, everyone else is an idiot. This means partner could have x xxxxxx xxx xxx or AKxx Qxxx Kxx xx. Bidding on may be right, but since I want to cut my losses, I will pass. Everyone else will be in 4 also, unless you have 42 HCP between the two hands.

Not sure

say there's 60% of hands that make slam of all possible indy raises (weighted by probability). out of these hands 85% are not 4 bids.

If I pass will it make me proud that I respected the Principles, the System, Common Sense?

Not sure about the 60%. I think I'd try for slam in an indy on BBO though, that's what my feeling tells me.

I am sure I have made this comment before.

On BBO, it is absolutely amazing how many players, playing a standard system, raise one of a major to four of a major with game forcing hands.

So, there is no way of knowing whether partner has a preemptive 4 call or a game forcing 4 call. I pass and hope that (a) he has a preemptive 4 call or (b ) slam doesn't make.
