ArtK78
[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sxxxhxxxdqj9xxcqj]133|100|Scoring: IMP1♠ - (P) - 1NT - (2♦)2♥ - (P) - 2♠ - (3♦)P - (P) - ?[/hv] You are East. This is near the end of a 12 board IMP match scored at Victory Points (part of a several month long round-robin). You believe that you are behind in the match, if that is relevant. Your call? OleBerg
Unfortunately, this time, my double would not be penalty. So I pass. Looking forward to see, if it was really that unfortunate.
ArtK78
Yes, it is truly unfortunate. For your opponents. [hv=n=saxxhakjxdtctxxxx&w=skqjxxhtxxxxdcaxx&e=sxxxhxxxdqj9xxcqj&s=stxhqdak876xxckxx]399|300|1♠- (P) - 1NT - (2♦)2♥ - (P) - P - (3♦)P - (P) - X - All Pass[/hv] I held the hand with the diamonds. My LHO opened a little light, based on distribution. I won the opening spade lead, cashed three hearts and ran the ♦10. The rest was easy (actually the whole hand was easy). whereagles
Easy pass. It would have been even easier if your RHO had supported the 1st round.
gnasher
Unfortunately, this time, my double would not be penalty. So I pass. What would your double mean then?
ArtK78
A funny story about this hand. I was playing with a person I had known for ages but had never played with as a partner (we were teammates on a team which won the ACBL District 4 Grand National Teams some 10 years ago). So, these 12 boards were the first we ever played together. When the hand was played and the dummy hit, I complemented my partner as a very fine dummy-putter. keylime
Pass for me. Something about this, just isn't right to me at all. I don't have a 2 trick set, and I got length in both majors.
mtvesuvius
I would have passed. I have very little defense other than 2 or 3 trump tricks. Hesitation then pass will turn it into 2 trump tricks.
OleBerg
Unfortunately, this time, my double would not be penalty. So I pass. What would your double mean then?Actually at the time of posting I thought the hand had made a preference to spades.Pass on 2♥??? Anyway, in the actual sequence, my double would show that I want to compete, meaning I have four hearts, but I will allow partner to pass with a very defensive hand, with, at least some, diamonds stacked. Something like: ♠ xx♥ QJxx♦ xx♣ KQ10xx This is a general meaning of my doubles, when I am "Under the gun".
jdonn
When the hand was played and the dummy hit, I complemented my partner as a very fine dummy-putter. He should insult you as a very fine horrible hand suit rebidder! Just kidding, that isn't worth an insult.

What would you do in direct seat over the preference to 2♠? Alternatively, would you have done something other than 2♦ over 1NT on the previous round? MFA
Pass 3♦. Yes, on the good days, we get +300 instead of +100, but on bad days we get -470 instead of +50.
