  1. 1. What is opener's 3N rebid?

    • A 5(332) hand with something like 19 hcp
      9
    • A semi-balanced hand with 6+S and extras
      27
    • Can be either/both of the above (two way bid)

It can't show a balanced hand, 'cause if you had that you'd either open differently or bid 2NT, or pass. It has to be spade length and extras. It almost certainly has to be semi-balanced, with stoppers or partial stoppers in the side suits. Some hand that expects to take 9 tricks in NT, and not to take 10 tricks in spades, opposite a balanced minimum with fewer than 3 spades.

I thought it showed solid six-carder or longer and not a whole lot of extras. Certainly true of a minor opening, but I thought it was the same with a major. At least it is a useful agreement, even if it were not "expert standard". I don't know what expert standard would be. Surely 1s-1NT-2NT shows 18-19 and balanced so that meaning is out for the 3NT bid.
