A guess can never be correct, as it would then not be a guess. :-)

My best guess would be a take-out double, planning to correct 4 to 4.

That is an overbid off course, but I will rather overbid than misbid.

since pass is posted as an option I guess 2 is not GF. Pass looks like a bridgt idea.

me too

As I would have opened:

KQ10973

K3

Q53

82

with one spade, I have a Club and a King more than I have already shown. And my spade suit is a tad above average for this sequence.

But in general terms, you'll have no problem convincing me that pass is right.

You guys vote or only reply? I voted for pass, yet there are only 2 votes for pass.

Waiting to be told what system we are playing

My partners 2/1s are sound, so I "must" make another move. I try X as "do something intelligent" and if pd passes, I am fine with that descission.

Yes pass will often be a winning bid, but may fav. opps tend to bid on many hands without many HCPS in this situation.

My first reaction was double, meaning "Do something intelligent" like Codo put it. I guess it's also known as a "maximum double". If my double would be penalty, I pass. (In 2/1 GF 4C stands out of course)

I try 4C here only because passing is a breach of partnership discipline if I'm playing 2/1, as tempting as it is to do it anyway.

Incidentally, even playing 2/1, should 4C here be forcing? Mike Lawrence recommended that a 2/1 is forcing to 4 of a minor only if 3NT isn't playable, which I believe it isn't here.

       1   P   2

2   2  3   P

P     ?[/hv]

IMO 3N = 10, 3 = 9, 4 = 8, _P = 3

4 may be the majority expert choice but Hamman has brainwashed ordinary players like me. Whenever I bid 4, partner holds A Jxx Jxxx Axxxx or a more suitable hand. Pass may be the practical winning bid but, I reckon, even playing Acol, we are in a forcing-pass auction.
