helene_t
Niemeijer, the version of Puppet Stayman popular in the Netherlands, allows the pair always to find out if there is a major suit fit without bypassing 3NT. Except when opener if 54 in the majors. It is simple to add2N-3♣3♥-3♠*as a natural bid to cater for opener being 4=5, and to cater for 5=4 you can play2N-3♣3♦*as including the 5=4 hands, and then2N-3♣3♦-3♥*as showing 3 or 4 spades, then opener can bypass 3N with 5 and bid 3♠ with 4. Actually I met a pair in an IRL tourney that played it that way. Does this version have a name? Is it popular somewhere? Yes I know I should have asked them. kenrexford
I avoid opening 2NT with 54 in the majors. Ditto. I also lack any tools for Puppet or Muppet or sny other such permutation to find out if Opener has 6-4-0-3 shape. I find that acceptable. dicklont
When you avoid opening 2NT with 5/4 in the majors, how do you solve this one? ♠ A Q 6 4 3♥ K Q 4 2♦ A J♣ K J I feel that sometimes you cannot avoid it. I have no solution for the rebid problem and have to accept that the 5-3 fit will not be found.

I'll open 1NT when 54 (end even 63) in minors, but almost never when 54 in majors.
BobElliott
"FIVE CARD TRANSFER STAYMAN" =2NT - 3C - 3D = NO 5M & NOT 4H (A) THEN 3H ASKS S LENGHT:3S=3 3NT=2 4S=4. (B) 3S OVER 3D = 35 IN MAJORS. 3H = 4/5 H ... THEN: 3S ASKS : 3NT = 4H 4H= 5H . 3S = 5S . 3NT = 44 MAJORS. 2NT - 3H(TRANSFER) -3NT = 25 IN MAJORS. THIS WAY YOU NEVER MISS A 5-3 MAJOR SUIT FIT. ;)
