I wish there was a way to instantly flash that picture at partner's screen; come on, Fred, make it happen. (P) - 1♦ - (P) - 1♥(P) - 2♠ - all pass. I made 11 tricks on a 4-2 fit. ArtK78 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Share Posted January 8, 2009 Funny. I had a well-respected player pass in a similar situation in a live game recently: 1♣ - 1♠2♦ - 2♠PASS! Pard was 1444 with 16 HCP. I happened to have a pretty good hand myself, but it never occurred to me that he could pass 2♠. I misread the hand slightly so I only made 11 tricks in my 6-1 spade fit. Anyway I've always wanted to coin a word so here goes: Henceforth let's all use the term "Balrog" to describe a player who makes a bone-headed pass, hurling his partner and himself into a bottomless chasm.
