(1)-p-(1)-2

(2)-??

opps play 4c Major and Strong NT. 1=4+

It is MP's!

You have a 9-card fit for your partner, but also have opposition. Opps are not very strong.

3 or pass (....or something else)?

Would other vulnerability change your choice?

3D. It's very important to tell partner about the fit and enough values to compete. It is true that the KQ is going to be hopeless but how else are you going to fight for the partscore?

Thanks for the answers so far.

Length in suit of opps is always a negative indication for me to raise partner (because opps maybe have already issues in their contract)? This is probably right, but maybe I'm giving it too much weight?

Would you also bid 3D:

- at IMP's

- and with

I would normally bid 3 in these range with any 3 cards, if you keep giving me 4 cards nothing will stop me from raising.

Not long ago I raised to 3 with this cards

(1)-ps-(1)-2

(2-3!

after Q was led I though I would make 0 tricks, but far from true, partner managed to make 3 tricks with dummy anyway making 4.

I would bid 3D at any form of the game at any vulnerability. Pass is unthinkable with that hand.

Very rarely does anything good happen when you let the opponents play 2M with a fit. On a good day, the opponents will make 3, and you'll keep up with the pairs who pushed them up a level. More likely...

They'll make 2, but you'll lose matchpoints to pairs who

A) competed and made something at the 3-level (or 2S over 2H)

:) competed and set the opponents in 3M

C) competed and went down less than the opponents' partscore.

Just to show what the hand should be like, for me not to raise:

I would raise with that Ole, at least at my club where they autobid 3.

Me too, and I doubt at MP's that you'll score all that well if you try to defend 2x and hopefully my opps will be in 3x where I will take my shot at hurting them at MPs.
