helene_t
I think the South hand is too weak for the double, even if it's agreed as take-out. If p has a trap pass on 1♥ and some values, he will double himself. Otherwise the board belongs to the opponents.
ArtK78
IMO the double is a takeout double of hearts. South's hand is more than adequate for a double. If South had 18-19 HCP and a balanced hand, why would he double? The opponents have told South that North is broke. What would that double accomplish? Codo
To me it is a 18/19 NT too. I did not double 1 Heart, I doubled 1 NT.Like Helene said, if partner holds the trap pass of hearts, he can double 1 NT himself, nothing is lost. MFA
X of 1NT is take-out of hearts, which is ok with this hand. North should bid 2♠.
