glen
During the last ACBL speedball, an announcement was made that finishing last in your section would get your entry fees refunded - from the look of some of the sections, there was quite a race to last! jillybean
We may hear more complaints about destructive bids.
inquiry
I have to agree, I am not so sure this is a good idea. Someone close to last might be tempted to do un-ethical things like throw boards like crazy, giving un-earned tops to others in the event, effecting not only who comes in last, but who comes in the top positions. TylerE
Agreed, this is really really bad. Can't beleive they're actually doing this, essentially encouraging the membership to violate the CoC (The section that basically says you should try to obtain the best possible result on each board, regardless of longer-term consequences.) Finch
When I used to run our christmas party we gave a prize to the pair with a score closest to 50%.
vuroth
I much prefer Frances' idea.
Jacki
It was a New Year's Eve one-time (what I thought would be) fun idea on the last night of the year. I also refunded entry fees for 5th 8th and 10th place finishers. On this one game, I didn't notice any wild bidding so people could come in last and get their buck back. There were some extratordinary attempts to get to 8th place though. Good grief! Jacki
keylime
I can handle if it's for special occasions; if it's a standard tho, I have a fundamental problem with chucking and such.
