This is from the Cayne match yesterday.

 

Versace led the A, continuing the suit as partner had 5 of them (and dummy held KQTx). This ensured a two trick defeat.

 

In the other room, after a less revealing auction, a diamond was led into the opponents 5-5 fit and the contract made.

It occurred to me much later that the Heart Ace lead caters to pard having Qxxxx where a low heart would block the suit. ie. dummy has the stiff 10 and declarer Kxx.

You can find a disaster lay out for any lead, think of leading the ace and finding partner with 10xxx declarer having Hxx or KQx for example. Or giving the 9th trick....
