barmar
I was just playing in the $5 Robot Rewards tournament #1783, and I only got to play 7 boards because when I was declaring the bots were taking 20-30 seconds to play their cards. This even happened when they had a singleton in the suit led. In one case my trump suit was QT9x in dummy opposite AKxx. On trick 2 I led from dummy to my Ace, and West took at least 30 seconds to play, so I thought for sure it had to have at least 2 cards in the suit. A human would be able to follow low in tempo, but the bots have to perform lots of simulations to determine that it doesn't matter what card to play, and this sometimes takes a while early in the hand. So of course I cashed the King; it took another 30 seconds to find a card to discard. Luckily this just cost an overtrick, but it was still annoying. This was between 11:30 and midnight EST tonight. Were the servers overloaded?
cherdano
Maybe you had a bad connection?
cherdano
Btw, how many boards do you usually finish within the 25 minutes?
golfacer
I also played in #1783. At my table, nothing happened in the last 4 minutes. I also had the 25-second delay at times for a few minutes before that. From looking at the scores, I would think almost everyone was affected by the server problem. helene_t
I have the same experience, must be server overload and/or my rubbish connection.
barmar
Btw, how many boards do you usually finish within the 25 minutes? Usually at least a dozen.
barmar
This happened again on Sunday. It was during the afternoon Cayne match, and things got better after the match finished. It also took a while for me to login, the BBO Flash dots cycled at least a dozen times. And if I tried to view someone's profile, it took a long time to find them (I had to click on Pin to keep the profile window from closing before it could fill in the details). Do all the Cayne kibitzers put a heavy load on the BBO servers?

What is causing this?
uday
What is causing this? I'm not sure. Each time it happens we come a little closer to finding out what it is. Once we know, we'll be able to address it directly. The syndrome is that under heavy load conditions ( but not always ) something happens that forces the machine to choose between decent response time for people who're already logged in and tolerable response time for people who're trying to login. I usually instruct it, as best I can, to heavily favour those who're already logged in. On Sunday I tried a small experiment, telling it to lean the other way and that caused both slow logins and bad response time for 1.25 hrs. We've got some diagnostics going in tonight and I hope to learn more. Anyway, we're aware of all this, and this issue is on top of my todo list. I'm optimistic that we'll find something within the week but I've been wrong on this before. U
