You ruff the lead and cash the ♦A, which gets ruffed with the 2 by West. ♠3 lead back (heart lead would obviously have been fatal) East follows with the 8, what's your plan? maggieb
This problem is very computational! (ugh, stupid liberal arts degree :)) I think I changed my mind, I agree with your start. The bidding makes it too likely spades are 4-1 to overtake the ♠K, though I would do this with no opposition bidding. After your start I would just try to get back to hand with a club. Yes, there is no legitimate layout where this should work, but the alternative seems worse, since I didn't get Lightner'd.
jdonn
I am not able to compute this accurately, nor inclined to try, but I think I agree with your start. If AK of diamonds had held up then I would play king of spades and a diamond. If rho showed out I could ruff as low as possible and be virtually cold. If rho followed I would ruff high and hope for 3-2 trumps by drawing another round, assuming ten of spades is outstanding play a club to dummy, and pitch the heart on a diamond. From the point you reached, I guess I overtake the spade and hope they come down. I infer they are breaking well at this point or else LHO might well have played another heart (certainly with Txx of spades remaining, for example.) rogerclee
Out of curiosity, what shape(s) are the above four posters playing RHO to be on? 2551? 2650?
nige1
Dealer: South Vul: None Scoring: IMP ♠ KJ ♥ [space] ♦ AKJ942 ♣ AKQ53 ♠ AQ9764 ♥ 74 ♦ 83 ♣ 982 Auction for completeness:2S-(P)-3D-(3H)P-(4H)-6S-AP Lead is the ♥6. You ruff the lead and cash the ♦A, which gets ruffed with the 2 by West. ♠3 lead back (heart lead would obviously have been fatal) East follows with the 8, what's your plan? If you don't agree with the initial line, feel free to say. I agree with manudude03's start: ruff the ♥ lead and cash top ♦s although you now seem doomed when, surprisingly, LHO ruffs ♦A. LHO's ♠ return may have granted you a reprieve. If you think LHO was 2605, then you should win ♠K on the table, cash ♦K and ruff a ♦.If you think LHO was 3505 (which does seem more likely), then you should follow JDonn's line, overtaking dummy's ♠K with ♠A.In either case, you can draw trumps and use dummy's ♣ entries to ruff out a ♦ winner,
manudude03
The hand was rotated to make south declarer in OP. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=saq9764h74d83c982&w=s8hakjt95dqt765c7&e=st532hq8632dcjt64&s=skjhdakj942cakq53]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The trump lead at T3 seemed strange to say the least. I ended up overtaking the king and finished off 2.

rogerclee
grosvenor switch to trumps :) We were always playing for some kind of impossible layout at this point.
