What to bid with an impossibly difficult hand after having already made an impossibly wrong decision?

Wild ass guess works.

Nothing will tell partner that you have this hand. So, you either bid 4 or 6, IMO. Maybe even 7.

I'll guess 6.

Oh come on guys. Yes, double was weird last round, but it's worked out fine. At least we've found hearts, and partner may well have been endplayed into 3N over 3d with an iffy club stopper.

I would definitely bid just 4h now and wish partner luck. Slam needs way too many cards in partner's hand.

I think rebidding 3 makes it difficult to reach 4. I think doubling and not getting the heart response would have gotten us to diamonds eventually, wouldn't it?

Or is it that this hand HAS to be played in diamonds? It is MP after all.

Would 3 be an insufficient bid over 3 or something?

Would 3♥ be an insufficient bid over 3♦ or something?

It may sound amazing but I hadn't thought of this. :P

However, what if bidding 3 makes partner think I don't have 4 hearts? The 3 double is a negative double which 'tends' to show 4 hearts, while I thought 3 denied it. Of course this shouldn't be so unless you have specifically this agreement, so I guess I should have bid 3. Only 9 tricks were available though.

No but p would not introduce a 4-card hearts over 3. If you really want to locate a 4-4 heart fit (which wouldn't be my priority) you have to double I think.

Anyway, ditto Viren.

Why would partner not bid a four-card heart suit after 3? Is there some rule that says that a 3 bidder cannot have four hearts, that a 2 bidder cannot have four hearts, and that you cannot bid them even if you have them?

I'm completely with Ken on this one. How can you say double seems to have worked? We are now guessing what to do when we could have described our hand and left it to partner. I really can't think of a reason partner wouldn't bid hearts over 3 if he held hearts.

I think the double was not as bad as most say. We all know that LHO did pass over our bid. But I really doubt that you have a convincing way to come to your heart fit if he did not.

When the bidding starts with

pass 1 2 2

3 3 4

I would be surprised if anybody has a agreement that 4 now shows 4 Hearts and how strong this bid should be.

OTOH if the bidding develops around

pass 1 2 2

3 X 4 pass(?)

pass 4 we had paint a quite accurate picture of our hand.

Of course I can say that there is no way that I want to play in hearts ever, then there is no need to double. But I would not underwrite that POV.

Anyway, now I have a "clear" 4 Diamond bid. My hand is good, but obviously not good enough to go on after the expected 4 Heart from partner.
