Apropriate defense

Recommended Posts

In the thread on forcing pass systems, a 2 opening was mentioned that shows a weak 2 in or a weak 2 in .

What do you think about this opening, any idea for a defense?

(For a statistical view I define that as 5-10 HCP and a 6 card suit, and I'm ignoring the suit quality.)

This opening has a frequency of ca. 1/25 openings.

The player in 2nd seat is now placed in a 4-1-1 situation.

4/6 of the cases his shorter major is openers 6 card suit, 1/6 he has equal length and 1/6 his RHO's major is his longer major.

So my first guess for a defense would be to use:

dbl -> T/O of with opening strength (showing longer heats) or a stronger hand (16+ any shape). Partner may pass with long .

2 -> T/O of 12-15 HCP (will usually have 4 except 3244) non forcing

2NT -> minors 5-4 12-15 HCP forcing 1 round

3m 5+m 12-15 non forcing

As the bid has nothing to do with pass systems - it is to be treated conventionel.

My choice is:

Pass: Weak or trap

DBL: All purpose force

2: 5+, Invite

2NT: ASK stop

3: Support for or stopper

3: Support for or stopper

3(CUE): Slam invite

3NT: Stop all OK

4: Invite

4: Pass/correct

Remember, responder passes "when he thinks it's right", usually, after multi 2H. He passes when he has short spades and lots of hearts, he passes when he has few hearts and not lots of spades, he passes when the vibe tells him that partner has hearts and not spades. He's often wrong, but -300 beats -450, and -600 beats -650... which means he's likely to pass with "game on for the opponents" no matter what his hand is. Also, -250 beats -300 if partner has spades, and they're not going to get to play undoubled; -500 is -500 if vulnerable.

The auction now has gone 2H-p-p to you. Partner's pass is "trap or weak". Good luck.
