Lobowolf
[hv=d=s&s=saxhxxdajxcakqjxx]133|100|You open 1♣ (natural system), LHO overcalls 1♥, and partner bids 1♠, showing 5. RHO passes...your turn.[/hv] And now for your encore...

655321
2♥ obviously. But your 1♣ opening has worked well. I would have opened 2NT and probably missed out on the overcall.
whereagles
Obvious 2H. Agree, A 3♥ jump as stopper ask with solid minor would have been an option here. I used to play that with an old pard.
Hanoi5
I'd prefer 3♥ if it asked for a stopper (though I guess it shows a splinter), but 2♥ it is.
jdonn
I don't see the point of 3♥ even if it was a stopper ask. 2♥ is game forcing, if partner has a stopper we will hear about it before long. 2♥ seems obvious, why waste room with 3♥ when we could so easily have slam? It seems if you want to treat this as balanced it's worth 2♣ then 2NT, that seems a fairer depiction of the hand's potential with a very likely 8 tricks. Really? It is not hard to construct hands where this will get us too high, it is much easier to construct hands where this will get us to a bad 6N than a good 6N, and occasionally it will get us to a bad 4N (or are you accepting a quant invite too? ;)). Anyway, I would have opened 2N, now I am happy I didn't.
maggieb
Well I can't say I agree with you here Josh. Yes, the hand has 8 top tricks but I still need a little bit from partner to make game and opening 2NT is unlikely to miss a game. On the other hand a 2C opening can easily get you to a slam where you just end up with too few goodies to make 12 tricks. So I'd also open 2NT. 1C worked really well this time (and yes, of course we'd bid 2H, this is the advanced/expert forum?) but I think it will more often create problems.
