jdonn
Uh...why, and why? Is your life too complicated to keep track of all 10 bridge-related threads? Don't make silly suggestions, instead be part of the solution. Find some interesting threads that you can start in the underused forums! csdenmark
Agree. As there are no longer software changes some merges in those 3-4 forums will be right too. Last post in slovenian forum February 6, 2007Last post in italian forum May 28, 2008 ------------------ Looks like a new forum about laws, regulation etc. might be worth considering. Echognome
I can just see the headlines: "Due to the recent economic woes, BBF has decided to eliminate the Youth and Junior forums and merge the Italian and Slovenian forum. Talks are still ongoing whether to merge the Adv/Exp forum with the Interesting Hands forum. Experts are concerned whether the Italians and Slovenians will get along or have border disputes. Some others are concerned that the Juniors and Youth will not know where to go and start frequenting the other forums that may be unappropriate for them. Finally, there are murmurs that people with uninteresting hands that want to post in the Adv/Exp forum will have no place to go." More at 11. Why 'do you care that there are rarely-used forums which have no negative impact on you at all'?2. You are becoming paranoid. I think I actually use good restraint to avoid responding to many of your silly posts. In fact look around today, among all the posters I have not been the most critical of you, or the second most...3. Sorry I don't get it. I'm sure it was funny though. :)4. DON'T CHANGE MY QUOTES! JoAnneM
I can't imagine why anyone would care if there is a Forum area that is underused. It is irrelevant. I do like the suggestion of adding an area for discussion of bridge laws, director calls, etc., outside of BBO games. I think the BBO Forum reading base is very wide, and includes people who do a lot of ftf playing.
the hog
Jeez, don't jump down his throat. He has a point and he made a reasonab;e suggestion. Anyway, if its irrelevant then why not follow his suggestions?
Trumpace
The BPO forum already has 10 pages of topics. Even though it is not currently used, people might be reading old threads. Why wipe those out? But good that you posted, maybe it will revive interest in BPO...
awm
As I've mentioned before, I would support some merging/renaming of forums. It would make it a lot easier to search for old threads if nothing else. The issue is... suppose I remember that there was an interesting thread about two-way new-minor force. Such a thread could easily have appeared in any of: General BridgeSAYC or 2/1Non-Natural SystemsBeginner/IntermediateAdvanced/Expert In other words, the forum names have hardly helped me at all. Similarly, I might remember that Frances posted a thread about an interesting bidding problem where the fourth suit was named at the four-level. This could easily be in: General BridgeSAYC or 2/1Interesting Bridge HandsAdvanced/ExpertOffline Bridge It seems somewhat more sensible (to me anyway) to split into categories that reflect the kind of posts you expect to see in the thread. I'd have gone with something like: Play and Defense ProblemsBidding ProblemsConventions and SystemsBeginner/Intermediate (and Teaching)Offline Tournaments and VugraphLaws and Rulings
han
I've never had a problem picking a forum but I can see others might have a harder time.
han
Oh I would also suggest keeping the BPO forum alive in the hope that somebody will organize another. Maybe I'll do it someday.

Perhaps we could keep separate Bridge sections forBidding.Declarer play.Defence.Systems and conventions.Laws and regulations.Teachers and partners. These categories seem to be roughly orthogonal i.e most topics would fit into one and only one category. JoAnneM
It's irrelevant because it's not broken. I can see adding to the Forum but why delete something that's there and not hurting anyone.
maggieb
I'm relatively new to the forums but I like it a ton! Many good problems and interesting views (some a little too radical for my taste!). A separate forum for rulings seems like a good idea, but sometimes you want to post a ruling question without telling that it is a ruling question! Why wipe those out? But good that you posted, maybe it will revive interest in BPO... Imo it's not good to just delete forums, but you might just bundle them into some sort of an archive... I also think adv/exp and interesting bridge hands are usually the same sort of topics anyway.
jdonn
Jeez, don't jump down his throat. He has a point and he made a reasonab;e suggestion.Sarcastic answer: Sorry mommy.Serious answer: He posted a suggestion in a public forum. I had the gall to disagree with the suggestion, and even offered an alternative course of action that would clearly be more constructive. I got called prejudiced and was misquoted for my troubles. Meanwhile, you didn't see fit to reply to the two (in particular, there could be more) posters who were absolutely flaming him in another thread. So please try harder not to mix up the jumper with the jumpee. Anyway, if its irrelevant then why not follow his suggestions? Are you just trying to egg me on into blasting you too and really losing my mind, or do you mean that as a serious comment? It's irrelevant because it's not broken. I can see adding to the Forum but why delete something that's there and not hurting anyone.I agree completely (this is essentially the non-sarcastic way of saying what I was trying to say to begin with.) 4. DON'T CHANGE MY QUOTES! Always good to know how to get on your nerves. Thanks B)- I think you are fully aware that the least of your problems is figuring out ways to get on my nerves.- I find it unbelievable that someone who has as much experience participating in online forums as you do (at least this one) does not realize what a terrible thing it is to change what someone said and quote it, even in a way that seems innocuous to you. It's one of the most egregious violations of netiquette possible.

mr1303
On a serious note, there's a reason why the BPO hasn't been done recently: 1) To actually organise it requires a lot of work2) There are a lot of people who complain about the scoring3) There are a lot of people who complain about the hands given Certainly these were my experiences when I had a go. I might be tempted to do it again, so long as people appreciate: i) I have a finite amount of time to devote to bridge each week. Things like work and my family will come in a higher priority to anything like bidding pollsii) The scoring system is always based on someone's opinion. If you don't like the opinion of the person carrying out the scoring, do someone else's bidding polliii) Choosing a number of hands that have a variety of bidding choices is actually quite difficult and requires a lot of work in itself. jdonn
If there is going to be a new forum created, how about one for announcements and congratulations? The forums are generally quite supportive of its regulars for bridge achievements and birthdays, so with a forum devoted to that stuff we could toss in major life accomplishments like new jobs or marriages or new homes, a place for us to brag a little if we get promoted or announce if we are moving, stuff like that. True that is always the water cooler, but it has essentially become a place for political and social debate, so I don't see why this couldn't be seperated out. Plus it would prove to visitors that no matter how much it seems like we loath each other when discussing in the bridge forums and the water cooler, we are all friends after all. :)
