Al_U_Card
From CNN This is especially true for Bush, historians and political observers say. He not only must oversee the construction of a presidential library and begin writing his memoirs, but he also must grapple with salvaging a legacy mired in the lowest presidential approval ratings in history. "The first year for every ex-president is really hard," said David Brinkley, a presidential historian at Rice University. "You have to raise all this money for your library, you've got to build an organization, you have to write a huge memoir, your papers are in disarray, and you suddenly realize your mistakes because your pace slows down." Bush has more than a month left in office, but planning for his post-presidential year began more than two years ago. In many ways, the process is in full swing. Fundraising and planning for his presidential library, to be built on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, is well under way. The president has started interviews with high-profile journalists, by all accounts already trying to define his legacy. I can see the conspiracy theorists having a field day....looking for illuminati signs in the construction of a building in the location of the greatest Bush triumph... Winstonm
Will the library furnish crayons or will one have to bring his own?
Al_U_Card
I gather that most of the books will be borrowed from Daddy's libary(sic). Dubya's Gumpesque preference was boxes of chocolates in the form of books.
mycroft
Note: real snark ahead. Republicans, stop reading now. I can see the conspiracy theorists having a field day....looking for illuminati signs in the construction of a building in the location of the greatest Bush triumph...I thought that was this? Oh yeah, the vote failed. Well, a Library it is.

kenberg
I am tempted to send the above solicitation to some folks who send me various conservative screeds but I imagine they wouldn't appreciate it. It's very good!
Winstonm
Dear Pigpenz: Contrary to public opinion, we really do have a sense of humor - when something is really funny. Am I laughing? Do I look like I am enjoying myself? A word to the wise. Sincerely, Michael ChertoffHomeland Security

kenberg
I sent this off to a friend who definitely did not vote for Bush. Although he enjoyed it, he is of the opinion that most of the quotes are bogus. Since it is just for fun and since Mr. Bush will soon be leaving office, it doesn't much matter but since I regularly remark on the right-wing's indifference to factual accuracy when they send out their mailings I suppose I will have to show some restraint of my own. Or not. I have been thinking about this approach of asking Bush to list his mistakes, I think it is wrong-headed. When presidents write memoirs or otherwise review their time in office I think we should insist on an accurate and detailed accounting of what happened. If they are not up for providing this accuracy, then they should shut up. I don't think they need to say which of their actions were mistakes. There is no shortage of folks willing to take up that task.
Al_U_Card
You forgot to mention that the library will be closed for vacation most of the time. Also, the lobby has padded walls.... :)

kenberg
http://www.snopes.com/quotes/candidate.asp Ah yes, truth again gets in the way of a good story. Browsing on snopes i find the following unverified story of Muhammad Ali on a plane trip. Before take-off the stewardess reminded Ali to fasten his seatbelt.Ali: Superman don't need no seat beltStew: Superman don't need no airplane either.I suppose that one isn't true either. Too bad.
