How Many Clubs?!?!?!

Any agreements (anyone?) on what 4 shows? I think playing it as a splinter for hearts seems like a good idea. It's simple, descriptive, and not really needed for other purposes.

I hope the thread title doesn't mean you are seriously considering bidding exclusion at this point...

4C is obviously club shortness and a heart fit, I would expect any expert partner to understand this.

Not me. (And I am an expert, just check my profile on BBO. :) )

Whats your bid with:

AKQ53

AQ42

97

A6

Edit: Off course, if it is 2/1 you can bid 3.

Yep, assuming it's 2/1 then that hand just bids 3H. I guess kfay did not specify that, and I just know that he only plays 2/1 because I have played with him. You would be right in a SAYC setting.

I'm bidding 3h and keeping the auction low. I want to see how many clubs LHO is going to bid. There is 0 chance partner is passing, even if it isn't 2/1.

This hand isn't as good as it looks -- he needs way too many cover cards to make a slam feasible -- if he has all of em, he'll probably cue bid 4d on the way to 4h anyway.

Ok let's say you bid 4. Partner cues 4. Is slam a foregone conclusion?

No. Why should it be?

You are currently at the 4D level. There is plenty of room between that and slam to make a decision.

You haven't actually mentioned what system we're playing - all the 4C bidders are assuming that 2H was game forcing, although no-one's actually said so.

Anyway, over 4D we can cue bid 4S showing extra values (which I suppose we sort of have, we have a club void and a 4th heart). If partner bids 5H over that I would pass. My second choice over 4D is 4H.

I would bid 4H over 4D.

Me too. Partner's 4 doesn't promise extra values; it just says that he's not put off by the idea of club shortage.

xx AQxxx Kxx Axx would be a perfectly good 4 bid. Whilst 5 would probably make opposite that, I'd rather not take the risk, and anyway he might drive to slam if I do any more.

This is an easy 4 bid to begin with, however, when partner bids 4, is 4 Kickback and 4NT a cuebid? This is another thing that came up several times in Boston... (Another interesting idea is to play 4NT as specific ace asking) I would bid 4 after 4, I've shown my hand, now it's time to let partner show his/hers.
