I think the East hand is (just) worth an opening playing Acol personally. The North hand - erm - as a 4th seat possible opener is very borderline indeed - maybe if I'm feeling lucky I'd try something with it - but most times I guess I'd pass with it.

Laughing free :)

I would bid 1 2nd seat with such a fine vulnerability. I saw many experts adjusted Rule of 20 to Rule of 19. (5 + 4 =9 +10 HCP = 19)

In Pau, France the 49th edition of the European Team Championships of all categories players worked out for same deals same day.

Tho in general all went well; as a matter of style similar 21-19 positions sometimes passed out. Above post taken 1 or maybe 2 weeks ago (If I remember correct) which dealt on BBO.

I've no problem with with opening rule of 19s if they look reasonable - but, in this case - apart from the fact that the spades are a bit anemic, do you really want count QJ double as a full 3 points? On top of that it is a 5422 shape as opposed to a 5431 which doesn't add to the attraction either.

If 4 KFays are at the talbe this is getting passed around to North for sure.

What I'd do there depends on how I'm feeling psychologically that day but I don't know what's right or wrong, I've never thought extensively on 4th seat openers.

Thread hijack? Is this a clear passout at MPs?

From here I don't see much point at opening it in IMPs anyways.

I think this depends a lot on your opening style in 1st/2nd seats. If you tend to use a light style opening, then this is a passout, regardless of form of scoring.

If you happen to use a sound opening 2/1 style in 1st/2nd seats, then this hand is an absolute must to open in 4th seat to protect partscores and even games for your side, at both forms of scoring.

jmoo.

Style thing, I suppose.

I'd open East because I have a great rebid and because the AK109 combo bumps up one point, IMO.

I'd open South because I overbid with spades a bit.

I'd open West 1 because I have playing strength and good reason to want a heart lead.

I'd pass North because I would open the other three hands and therefore can expect South to be slightly weaker than most would expect.

Not playing this way, I might pass all three first seats but then open in fourth seat.

I think it is either 3:1 or 1:3 if not 0:4.

Definitely style and system. I'd open 1C with E because I fancy getting in the bidding, responses to that are controlled, and I have a great suit to rebid. I'd open 2S with S because experience says it gains more than it loses. The other 2 hands pass, N mainly because if partner hasn't opened, we are not going anywhere, especially at IMPS.

So that's a vote for 2:0
