We bid these cards to 7H rather than 7NT. Given the form of scoring, this was not that great a score.

 

Any recommended suggestions? Simple conventions only (since that was the format of the competition).

this is gambling on the queen of hearts, but playing simple systems I don't think you can easily ask for it. But given opener found a jump to 4C, he should have something extra somewhere.

 

responder can count 5 hearts (he hopes), 4 clubs, AK, AK. He can see there is no benefit to playing in hearts.

Opener has shown ♠K, ♥Qxxxx ♦A, ♣Kxxx plus something extra. Without the extras north can count 13 tricks if suits split. With the extras 7NT must be good.

Normally I need 4 trumps for 2NT, but experience tells me that HHx is enough when 18+, and it simplifies lots of auctions.
