Do you pass or takeout?

The problem here is to know if partner has a strong 18-20 balanced or he has long running before his stoppers are gone. Both are possible, but I think I will give west some credit for his bid and bid 3 (if he isn´t worth my trust I beleive he won´t let 2NT be played and we will face another problem). Again another bidding where knowing your opponents would help!.

3 not because i'm weak but because thats what partner wanted when he made the double which is t/o short in diamonds.

if for example i had

XX

XXX

XXXX

XXXX

then i would take it out not of a choice but because i know 2nt will make with overtricks.

Interesting that most of you regard the x for takeout with short Ds rather than a penalty X. Frankly I didn't care either way:

My hand was:

Axxxx

AKQJ2

x

AQ

Pd bid 3H . 650 as opposed to 800, as interestingly, rho said he would not have pulled the X to 3D. He held:

KQxx

xx

KTx

Kxxx

Where are these opponents when I play? Ones that can make 3 (6+3), and prefer to play 2NTX down 800. 3 is the right bid over double, simple.

I think it is the other guy who should have pulled out, what did he bid with? AQJ and &J´s? there I found my masochist :D.

Althoug he didn´t wanna pull out, its interesting if redouble of either of the opponents here would be SOS or that 'hey man, I am not very sure about this' thing (wich fits good with both I think)

Pass.

The way I play dbl means 5+ or penalty, so 3 is not an option. With take out my p can bid 3: 3+, 4+ or 3: 5+ strong or 3: 5+ competitive... Losing tempo to show distribution after they found fit is very vulnerable.
