What are these DBL's fo you (The first bidding appeared on rgb with a hand and some posters - nobody objecting - suggested a takeout DBL. I would think it is penalty after you first showed values in their suit):

(1x)-1NT-(2x)-P-

(P)-DBL

(1x)-1NT-(2x)-DBL

We had this auction yesterday at MP's.

(1)-P-(2)-P

(P)-DBL-(P)-2NT

(3)-P-(P)-DBL

1) We have discussed before and I think there was a majority for penalty. I would have thought it was whatever double we play when they interfere over our 1NT opening.

2) If 1) is penalty this should be as well and if 1) is t/o this should be as well, I think.

3) Penalty.

(1) Penalty, because it's impossible to hold a takeout double.

(2) Takeout, because I want to be able to bid sensibly. I don't see anything wrong with playing overcaller's and advancer's doubles differently.

(3) Penalty-oriented. With a hand that knows it wants to play in 3 of a red suit, you can bid your lowest suit over 3C. With a hand that wants to drive game, you would have bid 3C rather than 2NT.

I think your answers make a lot of sense, although 2 makes even more sense to play as takeout than if our side had opened 1NT instead.

1) Penalty. Some have a style of being quick to prefer 1NT over a takeout double if in range. With that style a later double should be for takeout.

2) Take-out. I would hate to play this differently no matter the rest of my system.

3) Penalty.

1) Is totally penalty. If I had a t/o double I double 1X

2) Takeout. If LHO has X, CHO has X, and RHO has X.....

3) Totally penalty. I'm trying to find a fit in my non-4-card suit at the 3-level after not doing so at the 2-level?
