655321
The simple and agricultural 6♥ for me.
Gerben42
You can't bid 6♥, no idea what partner bid 3NT on (maybe a hand with a long minor!) Also don't hang partner... I will bid 5♥ only.
Codo
4 NT followed by 5 Heart, hopefully Partner will understand this as Hearts with tolerance for a minor.
helene_t
I like Roland's idea.
Finch
Systemically, partner should interpret 4NT-then-5H as a serious slam try in hearts. I didn't suggest that as an option in the poll, because this particular use of 4NT has never been discussed for this auction (after a preempt, take-out double, raise, we play 2/3S dble 4S 4NT...5H as a heart slam try, but it's not discussed after a 3NT overcall). jdonn
5♥ seems plenty. It's not like I would be bidding on the 5 level with a ton less than this.
mikeh
5♥... I have a lot of losers, especially opposite spades which may be partially wasted.. partner, with a max and working cards can bid... 3N was wide range.
RichMor
6♥ It was the 10 of Hearts that finally talked me into it.
cherdano
I would bid 6♥. I think I would have to very unlucky for it to have no play (KQx xx Qx AQJxxx?), but usually it will be on a finesse or better.Inviting with 4N won't work unless partner bids 5♣, and over 5♥ partner will hardly ever bid. han
6H, the opponents may still save us if it is wrong.
jdonn
Inviting with 4N won't work unless partner bids 5♣, and over 5♥ partner will hardly ever bid. I expect him to bid with a singleton heart if his overcall was based on a long minor. But I'm not totally sure, maybe he should just almost automatically pass and expect a weaker hand and better suit? Who knows?
benlessard
5S for me this show a void. 6/7m can easily be a better spot than 6 or 7H.
andy_h
6H, lets go.
Finch
The call chosen at the table was 6♥. On reading this discussion (and various other offline lines), I've been persuaded into 5S, ostensible showing two places to play. If partner bids 6m, I pass. If partner bids 5NT asking for a suit, I bid 6H. As for what happens next: - If you bid 6♥, partner raises to 7- If you bid 5♥, partner bids 5♠ and I assume you will now get to 7- If you bid 5♠, partner bids 5NT and raises 6♥ to 7 As for what happens after that, the other thread is going so well I don't want to interfere yet. bid_em_up
Really surprised 5♠ wasnt a listed choice. I choose other and bid 5S.
Finch
Really surprised 5♠ wasnt a listed choice. I choose other and bid 5S. As you may have noticed I eventually decided 5S was the right bid, so it is a bit surprising it wasn't listed.
poohbear
Seems to me that 4NT is natural in this auction. Why should it be anything else? Partner can assume you have short spades and a source of tricks otherwise you would just dbl most of the time. In my partnerships I have a rule that if you could Q bid the opps suit on the way to slam and didn't you don't have first round control.Given that I would bid 5S. This hand is good enough to play slam most of the time and you have the added vig that the opps might save.( perhaps I shoulda checked vulnerbility and type of game before answering. Oh well) . If partner tosses it back to me with 5nt I am bidding 6H
